"The most significant difference in my daily life is the expectation of soon finishing the construction of two houses. My mother, who has been living with us during the rainy season due to her leaking roof, is overjoyed to have enough space and to be separate, and I am hopeful that she will be in a decent house soon."

"In the coming year, I hope to expand my poultry farming by purchasing additional layers. At the moment, I own 20 chickens which are producing 10 to 15 eggs every day earning me an income of $2 per day. I intend to increase the number of chickens to 50. Once I accomplish this wish, I will be able to earn more income from the sale of eggs that would comfortably cater for the family's needs like food without much struggle."

"In November of last year, I signed up for a tailoring class to learn the trade that will enable me to support myself. My parents work as casual laborers and make meager profits from the sale of charcoal. The responsibility of providing for me and and my five siblings is a huge burden on my parents. I therefore intend to use the transfers to pay for a tailoring course over the course of the next three months. I will finish the course at the end of the year, which will allow me to start my own business and help my other siblings as well."

"My goal of enrolling in a nursing program will be realized. I graduated from high school in 2018, but my mother, who is the only wage earner, was unable to pay the tuition, thus I was unable to enroll in college. Although she is currently too elderly to do it, she burns charcoal for sale. Thank God GiveDirectly brought back my faded hopes. To do this, I want to buy additional goats with the upcoming transfers in addition to the seven I already had with the prior ones. They multiply monthly, increasing their profitability. I'm hoping that by the end of the year, I'll have more of them, enough to pay for my college expenditures for the three years that I'll be there."

"I am grateful to GiveDirectly for sending the transfer because, besides the transfer helping me to take care of my basic needs like daily food, I am owning livestock which includes 2 goats and chickens. I'm planning to join a college to learn some driving skills later this year and I am expecting to sell this livestock to raise the fees I need. I am also planning to save Ksh. 1000 in our local merry-go-round so as to raise the required tuition of Ksh. 10000. I believe I will be able to secure employment once I become a qualified driver because currently I am surviving on casual jobs and looking after animals."

"Poverty which has brought about poor yields of crops as a result of flash floods which sweeps over the garden and whatever crop is the garden is always destroyed and at the end the harvest is very disappointing. Due to the effects of flash floods it has caused shortage of food in my family hence hunger torturing my family. This is due to lack of other income generating activities a side from farming."

"My biggest wish is to remain healthy. Medical conditions at my age are common, and I am no stranger to them. Being able to remain healthy, to work, and to till the land would be my greatest wish. Then I can start a business selling my produce around."
