"My ambition has always been to open a hotel. Make delicious cereals with peas and other beans, ugali, chapati, and other regional favorites. I believe that when it comes to business, you can never go wrong with food, and that is one area where I believe we would excel. In the long run, seeing my children succeed academically and live a better life than me and my wife would be the ultimate goal."

"My greatest challenge is having a mental disorder, I have to take medication every day and go to the hospital every month to be able to control my sickness. I am not capable of reaching to my development because the small money i work for i use it in my hospital bills and i can't be able to use it and have a normal life of my own. Another challenge i have is that i don't have enough land to cultivate, i have to rent a land from others and I don't have any livestock of my own , which makes me ask some fertiliser from my neighbours to be able to get what to use."

"The first challenge we are facing is not having enough land to cultivate, we have to rent a land to be able to produce what to eat . And another challenge is not having a capital to operate a business, my husband Celestin wants to open a shop in our village but we currently don't have any facilities to start that business, because the little money we get we use it renting and paying for school fees for our children. We have to work for others to be able to raise enough money to pay for books , school uniform and other needs for our children."

"The challenge i currently face is that i don't have enough land to cultivate, i have to rent from others to be able to produce what to eat. And I had a leg injury which doesn't allow me to be able to work for others, i have to try to survive from the little I harvest. Getting fertiliser is not easy because i have to herd livestock from others to be able to get fertiliser to use. My house is small for me and my grandchildren as we even have to sleep with the livestock we herd inside the same house."

"Our soil are not fertile therefore working without fertiliser is hard and I currently don't have any livestock of my own to give me fertiliser thus the small land I own does not produce enough. Another challenge I am facing is not having enough land , i have to rent from others to be able to provide for my family. Working for my family all alone without a husband is very hard for me because I have to do everything on my own without any support and I have to raise my 3 children on my own. I have to work for others daily to be able to get money for school fees and other school materials which most of the times i lack to get when we are in sunny season nobody hire people and in that time i struggle a lot and my children face the same fate as well."

"Iron sheets are quite expensive and were the main ingredient missing in my home-owning recipe. I grabbed 30 iron sheets as soon as the funds arrived, allowing me to construct a two-bedroom house with a living room, kitchen, and dining area. I also purchased a female heifer to help my farming efforts, which exceeded my wildest dreams. That will allow me to obtain milk and calves to sell. Clothing for myself had previously been a luxury, but I was able to obtain a few items that would help improve my self-image. Stocking up on food in the house was also important; since I'm the only one in the house, I need to make sure I can sustain myself. My daughter recently married and has three children, so she is preoccupied with her family. I despise being a burden, so making certain that I have everything I require gives me great comfort. I expanded my business, which consists of selling fried potato squares for $0.05 per piece, and made sure I had enough stock and float to keep it running for a while. Aside from that, I work on the 3 acres of land I inherited from my father and thank God for the assistance that GiveDirectly has provided to me and my family."

"I never thought I would get financial assistance in my life like the one I am getting from GiveDirectly. I have been doing casual construction jobs which pay little compared to the many household needs. The transfer has greatly helped me to pay fees for my six children and buy food. My objective is to continue paying fees on time for my six children and ensure that their studies are not interrupted. This will give me an opportunity to spend my small earnings from casual jobs to buy adequate food for the family. I am also planning to buy a water pump that costs Ksh.20000 in the coming years. I will be saving at least Ksh.500 for this purpose. I normally do some irrigation when there is enough rainfall, and I have to carry water from the water pan which is tiresome. Having a water pump will ease the job, and maximise my 1/8 piece of land by planting vegetables for sale."

"I currently have two major objectives that I want to accomplish, first, I have three children in school that I need to ensure their studies are not interrupted for lack of fees. I am planning to pay for them on time every month and ensure that they excel in their studies. Secondly, my living house is in a bad shape, the roof is old and dilapidated. I rely on my husband's little earnings from casual construction jobs, and we couldn't save enough to buy building materials to rebuild the house. I am currently planning to buy at least 1 iron sheet every month until I have enough to facilitate the renovation."

"I currently face the challenge of poverty which has failed us to take children to good schools and as a result they study in schools with poor standards where they also attend irregularly hence performing poorly in class. I am also disturbed by water which comes from under ground when it rains. We really suffer because we lack where to sleep when water enters the house."
