Majibu
received a $435 second payment.
"I am forty-three years old and I have never married in my life. All my life I have been farming, and rearing livestock such as chickens, goats, and ducks which I sell at the market weekly. But during this drought season, I lost all my livestock due to dehydration. I was devastated and got into depression. With no water for farming, I opted to find casual jobs that would sustain me as I wait for the rain. I have been getting jobs that pay me $4 a day which enables me to buy food. We are two in the family, my sister and I. She is a widow and she has been taking care of the children alone. Receiving these funds has enabled me to help pay school fees for her children and repair my house that was leaking from the roof."

Kenga
received a $435 second payment.
"I would like to rear chickens and bees for commercial purposes. Early on before the drought, I had a lot of cows and goats but they all died due to dehydration. It downgraded my life and now I would prefer to rear livestock that sells easily such as chickens and bees that can survive at every seoson."

"My first wish is for my hand to recover. I would also like to start a retail business. My hand is still recovering from a stroke and doing heavy-duty work is not an option. With a shop, I can easily work around it with ease."

Elizabeth
received a $231 initial payment.
""Living in this town is very difficult. Life here is hard. My family and I depend on farming to survive. Last month, other recipients of this town got their money from Givedirectly while some of us didn't receive it. I felt very bad and disappointed. Friends mocked me saying that my name has been lost in the Givedirectly book.
I was angry for a week and later forgot about it.
On this day, it was about 7 am when I woke up and decided to call my son in Zwedru. When I picked up the phone, I saw a message from GiveDirect that I have received 35,625 LRD. Wow, I ran outside shouting loud with so much joy and happiness. I didn't know if I was in heaven or on Earth because the joy was too much.""

Sidi
received a second payment.
"I am a widow, my husband died seven years ago and left me with nine children. I work in a restaurant where I cook pastries and tea. I am paid $2.5 a day which I spend on food for the family. I also do a side hustle where I produce charcoal and my son sells it at $4 a sack. This money helps pay for my six children who are in school. Four are in primary school where I pay $1.5 a month and two are in secondary school paying $60 a term. Ever since my husband died I have never repaired my house and it was collapsing. I spent the recent transfer to build a new house which cost $450 and bought a mattress at $50 and used the rest on food."

Daniel
received a $450 second payment.
"My wife is a stay-at-home mum. she takes care of the home and my child. I would like to save some money and open a retail shop for her. Having an extra income that would help out with food and saving up for a rainy day would be of help to me. We talk a lot about the business and she loves the idea hopefully in 2023 that would be my next move."
