Dominic
received a second payment.
"I spent KES 36000 of the second transfer on buying a dairy cow which I added to one that I had before and one sheep at KES 8000. I am hoping that the two dairy cows will increase milk production in the future. This Increase will not only cut the cost of buying milk but also be an additional income generating source when I sell the surplus. I spent the last bit of the transfer buying food, household foodstuff, an extra piece of furniture, and kitchenwares that were missing in our home. I am grateful for the support from GiveDirectly and hope to keep improving the few projects we started. I also bought some new clothes for my two children."

Debora
received a $435 second payment.
"GiveDirectly's work and the support we received were so helpful in numerous ways that most families are currently living a better life. Many constructed new houses and others cleared their children's school fees after receiving the money. They did everything well, and I wish the program would be back to the village after completing the other they are yet to finish. I saw nothing wrong with the entire process and am thankful I was part of the beneficiaries."

Kadzo
received a $435 second payment.
"Despite the difficult burden of paying the school fees for my eleven children, I have faith that I will soon open a small business that will provide a steady source of income for my family. Many people are interested in venturing into maize buying and selling maize because it has a high demand in the neighborhood. The part-time work I have been doing is currently my only source of income, and I am hoping that the little amount of money I have been saving after buying food for my family every day will help me get my business off the ground."

Flocy
received a $435 second payment.
"Being a mother of four children and a trained saloonist, I do house call visits to my clients when they need my services. I had identified a piece of land that I wanted to buy, but I didn't have the cash to purchase it. When I received my second transfer, I went and negotiated with the seller and we agreed that I can get it at KES 20000. My kid had been sent home for fees arrear of KES 12000 and so I was able to clear it so that she could continue with her studies. I also bought foodstuff for my household that included dry cereals and rice, and spent the remaining amount on clothing for my family worth KES 12000, and saved the remaining to serve any emergency and replenishing of any exhausted item in the household."

Salama
received a $435 second payment.
"I was glad to receive the most recent transfer because it relieved me of the difficult task of feeding my family. Drought had really taken a toll on us and we had nothing left in the house to eat. I went to the market and bought maize and other food stuff worth KES 4000. I was happy that this would last us for almost a month with my family. I invested KES 44000 into buying two dairy cows and one goat. With the cows now lactating, I have been saving in bits and hope the two will increase income from the sale of milk, thus more savings. I later spent the remaining amount on foodstuff for my family and also bought new pairs of clothes, shoes and beddings for my one kid and myself. I am grateful for the support that has transformed my household greatly."

"My dream is to raise funds in some way and start a groceries shop. I would intend to sell veggies and fruits at Bamba Market as a potential secondary source of income for me and my family. This would greatly help in getting us and keeping us financially stable."

Kadii
received a $435 second payment.
"It hurts seeing my husband abandon me and my kids to be with another woman, and as such, I have had to pick up the financial slack and make ends meet. I would love to start a business selling mahamri and other food stuff to the kids in school. I feel this would greatly increase my income and put me in a position where I have more control over the fate of my kids, as well as myself."

"To state the obvious, GiveDirectly excels at making those in society who are struggling, lift themselves up with pride and dignity. As a recipient, I will always be greatful. As for how to improve, well, more transfers wouldn't hurt! There will always be needs and one will always need assistance, and if GiveDirectly could from time to time offer additional financial support, I'm sure all beneficiaries would continue to further their lives positively, continuing on the journey GiveDirectly has set them upon."

Joseph
received a $450 second payment.
"Through its monetary giving programs, GiveDirectly has achieved great success. The lives of many people in my village have been improved. For myself, I now possess a good house, livestock, and a toilet. Thanks to GiveDirectly, I was previously living in a shameful situation. I have not yet identified a need for improvement on the part of the organization."
