"I have my eyes set on building a big house, with a toilet inside. That would greatly improve the quality of life for both myself and my kids. Further to that, I am believing that we will be able to buy a dairy cow so that we can be drinking milk with our tea daily. In general, my goals are to better my family's lives as best I can."

"I would love to complete my house in the not so distant future. We are currently in a one bedroom house, and I would love to expand it and make sure we all fit comfortably. While at it, I've set my eyes on getting two dairy cows that I can use as a source of income to provide for my kids and myself. These would ensure some more financial stability moving forward."

Furaha received a $28 sixth payment.
"First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the transfer and my conviction that I will gain more as a result. My daughter finished her basic education last year and will start secondary school in one month. We would not have been able to send her to secondary school if it weren't for the organization, and we had no plans to do so. In exchange for a tiny charge, my husband, who is the primary breadwinner, assists others by carrying their baggage. He works in the city, therefore the rent on his home is covered by part of the same income. To increase our revenue, I burn charcoal on the other side. Most of the time, our earnings is insufficient to cover a full day's worth of meals. Going ahead, I will utilize all of my upcoming transfers to pay for our daughter's educational fees while using other funds to cover everyday living needs. One of the biggest things a parent can give their child is education, and we will be pleased parents to see our child follow her dreams"

Jumaa received a $28 tenth payment.
"The biggest thing I want to do this year is get a motorcycle and start a taxi service. Being without a permanent job for the past five months has made life in the village difficult. I work a variety of part-time jobs, including digging pit latrines, burning wood, and selling charcoal. I also build mud houses. Due to the poor economy in the village, these jobs are very difficult to come by. By purchasing the motorcycle, I will become self-employed and generate income to support my family. The purchase of livestock is one of my other objectives. I'll sell them once they've multiplied and use the money from the sale to buy a dairy cow. By offering the milk for sale at the market, I'll profit from the cow."

"A dairy cow was on the top of my to - do - list, as soon as I received the transfers from GiveDirectly. It was closely followed up by my acquisition of a 1,000 litre water storage tank, to help with the sporadic water supply at our place. The funds helped me greatly since, as a widow, mother of 9 ( all of whom are above 18 years, some married and others working) and grand mother to 10 I have to fend for myself, seeing as my kids are busy raising their own families. It has been 20 years since my husband died and I have been living off the fruits of my 5 acre piece of land where I till maize and sell. If GiveDirectly had not stepped in, I would have been hard pressed to accomplish what I did with the funds they sent."

"The days I received my transfers were by far my happiest. These funds from GiveDirectly allowed me to construct a 2 bedroom house for me and my family. Further more, I bought 2 male cows and 7 goats, as a source of potential income when they breed. I have a wife and 4 kids, my eldest is in Grade 3, second in Grade 1, third born is 3.5 years and my last is 1.5 years old. The two eldest who are in Migunjini Primary were paid for their school fees of KES. 3,000 per term, from the same funds sent by GiveDirectly. My primary source of income is selling charcoal at Mombasa town market, making a profit of KES. 1,000 , after selling each sack at KES. 1,200. With return such as those, it would have been difficult to achieve all we did without the GiveDirectly funds. We are truly thankful as a household."

"The money that was allocated to me by GiveDirectly was in the large part used to finish my house, that I had been building. A bit of masonry work here, alot of paint there, and within no time it was done. I have 6 kids, my eldest, who is from another wife, is a matatu driver, my second born is an officer in Nakuru, my third a mechanic at DT Dobie Mombasa, the fourth is married but jobless, fifth works in a hotel in Nairobi and the sixth is at JKUAT in Taita Taveta and I allocated some of the funds to catering for the KES. 70,000 as tuition at JKUAT. These funds greatly assisted myself and my wife who is a teacher at Fundumulo School in Bamaba, Kilifi, to make ends meet which we could not. As a shopkeeper myself who ,is currently not working due to a lack of license, I would have been unable to cater for all these needs considering all I have in stock are rice and beans for sale. GiveDirectly were a blessing to me and my family"
