Mercy
received a $418 second payment.
"I have been a businessman for so many years. In the near future and beyond, I am planning to start up boutique shops which deal with women's dresses. It has high demand as women tend to buy clothes on a daily basis. I am also planning to do subsistence farming whereby I will be mostly concentrating on farming maize, when produced, I will be supplying it in boarding schools. My family is still young, I will therefore use the profits earned to save for my children's school fees as well as basic needs like food and clothing."

Jumaa
received a $418 second payment.
"In the next year and beyond, I am planning to start up a small business of kiosk, I will be constructing a small shop nearby my home. Shops and supermarkets are far away from my community and people walk far away to the shopping centres since they are located far away from us. I am therefore anticipating that it will attract as many clients as possible since it will be near them. Besides, I am also planning to do dairy farming so as to get milk for my family's consumption and for sale as well."

Angeline
received a $420 second payment.
"I would love to keep animals. cattle, goats, and some chickens. Sell the meat, milk, and eggs for profit. Aside from that, it would be quite the upgrade to have some of the same products for domestic use as well as to serve guests when they visit. I pray this will come to fruition one day."

Joseah
received a second payment.
"The funds from GiveDirectly allowed me to build a 2-bedroom house. It had long been a dream of mine to build a home, and I was finally able to. I then proceeded to stock up on maize and bean seeds for planting. I farm on my 6 acres and mainly grow maize and beans. Part of the funds also went towards the tuition fees for our five kids. Our eldest is studying accounts and financing at Arvis technical college in Nakuru, the second born is in form four, the third and fourth born are both in the same school and in class 8 and grade 3, while the last born is just two years old. Tuition costs $260 per semester, 180 per term, $4.5 and $3 per term for all children, respectively. Having sorted that out, we had some room to breathe without the pressure of school fees. The only other income we were dependent on was the $47 we sell a sack of maize for when we have some left over after harvesting and setting aside ours for domestic use. The funds from GiveDirectly were truly a blessing to us."

Andrew
received a $420 second payment.
"I am a father of four children with only one child that has completed his secondary school esucation. I also work as a motorcycle operator and this is the only job that allows me to meet the needs of my family comfortably. When I received my second transfer of $550, I used $260 to pay school fees for my children. I also used another $120 to buy goats for keeping. I made a decision to buy goats since I had had to sell some of the goats that I owned to buy a piece of land in the past. It is also an investment that I thought it was worth investing in as it would help me meet the needs of my family in future. I am so much happy for what GiveDirectly has enabled me achieve over this short period of time. I can only look forward to achieving much more going forward."
