Katana
received a $421 second payment.
"I spent around $70 of my second transfer on clearing the fee arrears for my three children who are in primary school. They have been staying home for weeks and I was so worried that they might end up missing the exams. I am so glad to see them back to school which is a sign of good grades and hence a brighter future. Later on, I bought furniture which include tables, chairs and bedding. Previously, I used to sit on mats and it was so embarrassing whenever I have visitors. Also, the bed was a traditional one which was very small. I now feel relieved because I no longer experience the pain and the shame. In addition, I had to buy four goats so that they can serve as assets which I can rely on in case of any challenge. Also, I believe that through them, I will achieve most of my goals. I finally purchased foodstuffs for my five children. Being a single parent, I feel thankful because my children can now take at least two meals a day."

Kadzo
received a $436 second payment.
"At the time I was receiving the transfers, I had quite a huge debt in tuition fee for my son who was in high school. Therefore as soon as I got the chance to withdraw the transfers I proceeded to pay KES 30,000 for my son's education. Afterwards I proceeded to spend KES 6,000 on purchasing two goats. As for the balance, I gradually spent it on nutrition for the family since my husband was barely making any money."

Nyevu
received a $421 second payment.
"Since I got married more than 30 years ago, I had not had the privilege to own and sleep on proper modern bedding that is a bed and a mattress. The only time when I could enjoy that is when I visited our relatives in town. I had desired to own proper bedding since the old traditional thread-twisted bed and mat were uncomfortable. Every morning, I felt body pain all over which impacted my daily work negatively. I spent the recent transfer to acquire proper bedding and currently enjoying my night waking up fully re-energized. In addition, I spent part of the remaining amount seeking proper medical care for myself due to the backbone problem that had been disturbing me for a while. Also, I bought food and clothing with the remaining part because I was putting on old and torn clothes that were making me uncomfortable during community gatherings."

Mali
received a $436 second payment.
"Using my first transfers I had started on buying a couple of building material because I wanted to construct home since my old one had collapsed a couple of years back. Therefore, when I received the transfers this time around I went ahead to buy a couple of pieces of timber and eighteen pieces of iron sheets. Afterwards I proceeded to buy a bed and a mattress which cost me KES 10,500. I then bought four goats which was worth KES 14,000. I decided to use the remaining balance I was left with on nourishment."

Hellen
received a $421 second payment.
"I spent $300 on clearing the balances for the land I bought using the first transfer. I am so happy because now I own the land fully. I lived with my parents and I had always wished to purchase my own land. This was not easy because I do not have a continuous source of income. I depend on casual jobs to earn some money. The money I get through this is so small and it is only for basic household needs. I am so grateful because I live separately and this had given me a piece of mind to do farming. I spent $200 on purchasing a heifer, I always buy milk and this is so costly for me, When it reproduces in the next few months I will cut the daily cost of buying milk. The rest of the money I spent on food and household items that we were lacking at home."
