"I plan to save my income from my carpentry job to raise money which I will use to pay for my college fees in February. I finished my primary school education last year though due to lack of money, I never joined a college then. I have been saving part of my income for this purpose; I have saved $40 that I intend to top up with my subsequent transfers to raise $6.45 for college fees. Through the carpentry training, I am yet to enroll in, I will be able to start my workshop and hence will have a reliable source of income as opposed to working for someone."

"I thank GiveDirectly because it's through their financial support that I was able to complete high school. My parents are not well off and they couldn't readily pay the required fee. I still have a huge fee balance that has made it impossible for me to collect my certificates. I am required to clear a balance of Ksh.20000, and I am worried that I might not be able to secure any employment without the certificates. I am planning to clear this balance through the monthly transfer and be allowed to collect my certificates and enrol to a technical training college."

"I embody the positive transformation that has been witnessed with the organization's return to our town and the associated funding. Before the year was over, I managed to start a business selling groceries to assist me provide for my family. I had been saving money during the months. This year, I want to make sure that I use the funding I will continue to get to make my company more successful and sustainable. After that, I was also expecting to utilize the money to purchase a few farm animals, especially goats and chickens as they are less expensive than cows."

"I am living with my spouse and 6 children in a small and almost open-roof grass-thatched house that is about to collapse. The situation is worse in recent days because of the cold nights that experience. In the coming year and beyond, I intend to construct a decent, two-roomed, iron-roofed house for the family. Moreover, our 5 children are still in primary school and I am planning to support their education by making sure I pay their fees on time."

"Sometimes back, my house collapsed. Since I did not have any source of income that could enable me to build another house, I was forced to move into my daughter's house. This state did not give me peace of mind since I was not as free as I used to be in my house. I felt my privacy is being tampered with. How I wished the charcoal-making job could enable me to build even a hurt. When I was enrolled in the GiveDirectly program, I opted to start buying some construction materials aiming to build my house. Currently, I have five pieces of iron sheets which I bought from the transfers. I will be very glad to accomplish this before the year ends. Although I am still staying in my daughter's house, I am very optimistic that by the start of next year, I will be in my house."

"I am a cattle farmer, rearing goats for livelihood. I, unfortunately, went to a loss recently following the scourging drought that struck our area. My twenty goats died, and I had to sell the remaining ones at throw-away prices to prevent further losses. This year, I plan to invest in a poultry farming business for income generation purposes. I intend to start the business with at least twenty chickens, with at least $40. I will borrow a loan from my merry-go-round group that I will top up with my GiveDirectly transfer to enable me to actualize this goal."

"My health issues made it difficult for me to make smart investments with the money from the transfers. I devoted a significant amount of time and money to finding medical care, but thank God I am better and my condition has improved. I intend to use the funds this year to start a small kiosk business where I will sell silver cyprinid and other food products like maize and wheat flour. This will increase my likelihood of achieving financial stability and relieve my son of the demanding responsibility of caring for me."

"I need to extend another room to my one-room house by year-end. This will provide adequate space to accommodate my three grandchildren, who mostly spend their nights with me. Furthermore, given my advanced age, I would enjoy the privacy that comes with occupying a separate room. The project will cost at least $100, which I plan on raising through upcoming transfers. After completing construction, I plan to buy a bed and mattress for the new space."

"I do not have a stable source of income . I used to sell small tilapias and groceries but my husband stopped me from doing it .Nowadays I just do subsistence farming , I also dig for people at a small fees when need arises . My husband is a butcher in Mombasa town . We both struggle to fend for our family . I used $370 to pay school fees for my son who is in secondary school and $30 for my 4 children who are in primary school . I spent $18 on 1 bale of maize flour because there was no food in my house . My thatched roof kitchen had already collapsed and I had no where to cook from . So I bought 10 iron sheets worth $75 and 4kgs of nails worth $12 . I topped up the balance and paid labour for my new kitchen to be constructed . Without this transfer , I couldn't have done all these , maybe I could even be cooking from outside ."
