Douglas
received a $162 initial payment.
"I am grateful that I was able to prepare my acre of land for plantation after receiving the first transfer from GiveDirectly. I bought butternut seed for $50 and paid labor charges during the plantation after blowing my piece of land with the first $50. My farm, as well as the farms of other villagers, are now irrigated thanks to a county government initiative that has aided us throughout the severe drought. I also put $30 toward the hire-purchase of a solar panel and lighting equipment. Since then, I have been making daily payments of $1, which will continue for the next year. I now have a well-lit home with security lights that have reduced wild animal attachment to livestock. In addition, I spent the remaining funds on household food items for my family of two."

"Around 3:00 p.m., I received a message and realized it was from GiveDirectly after reading through it to understand it. I was at home with my wife, who was overjoyed when I told her the good news. Later that evening, we sat down to plan and agreed to collect the entire transfer the following day before making the agreed-upon purchases."

Melvin
received a $162 initial payment.
"I had nothing to invest in the farm, and even though there was seed support from well-wishers, I could not get it because I did not have a plot to plant before GiveDirectly came along. I am grateful for the help that has made the greatest difference in my daily life since leasing and planting the land. As I closely monitor the healthy growth of my crops, I am encouraged. I am currently planning to begin weeding on my own because I have exhausted the first transfer and am unsure of the exact dates for receiving the second transfer."

Regina
received a $146 initial payment.
"I sent $30 to my two boarding secondary school sons traveling home after their schools closed on the first transfer. The next day, I collected the remaining funds and gave a portion of them to my husband, who needed to see a doctor because he was not feeling well. He has a growth on his back that has been gradually growing since he was unable to afford treatment. His doctor confirmed that it was a malignant growth that he suspected was a tumor during his first visit. Despite the fact that he was charged $80 for the consultation and some medication he brought with him, he has so far visited the same hospital, and they chose to prescribe him herbal medication that causes the tumor to grow faster and then burst. Every visit costs him $80, and we have had to sell some of the properties we had to meet the cost. I am relieved that his condition has improved and remain optimistic that he will recover soon. I later used the remainder to buy food for my family of eight, which we still use today."

Grace
received an initial payment.
"I received the transfer from GiveDirectly around 4:00 p.m. After seeing the indicated amount, which was exactly the first transfer promised that I was expecting, it was easy to understand the message's contents. On the third day, I informed my husband, Joseph, with whom we sat to plan and collected the entire amount from a nearby shopping center."

Boaz
received a $162 initial payment.
"After receiving my first transfer, I spent $65 on building materials in order to renovate the roof of my current home. I had been living there for three years, and the roof is currently weakened due to termite infestation. I also improved my farming by spending $100 on certified butternut seeds and planting them on an acre of land. Because my farm is adjacent to the county government's free irrigation resources, investing in farming as my primary source of income yields a higher return. In addition, I spent $1 on clothes and $12 on servicing the loan I had obtained after purchasing a motorcycle on credit. In addition, I used the remaining funds to buy food for my family of three."

"While relaxing at my home in the afternoon, my grandchild came running and panting after hearing neighbors received their first transfers. He immediately took my phone to confirm. I was filled with happiness for receiving such a huge amount of money at once, and for the first time in my life. Getting such a sum of money at my age was not even in my dreams or wishes. I allulated in happiness since I knew that challenging issues like hunger were going to be settled."

Dama
received a $28 tenth payment.
"Being jobless, I intend to start a small business vending dry fish and tomatoes around the village. This will be a reliable source of income for myself and my family. Currently, I am not working after giving birth to my second-born last month. In addition, I planning to boost the livestock rearing that I started with the transfer by purchasing more goats. This will be my future investment for the children's education. As of now, my firstborn is in grade 2 and is expected to join the junior secondary school in grade 6."

Kahunda
received a $28 fifth payment.
"Currently, I have a goal of starting an investment in livestock specifically goat rearing. I understand it will take quite some time because the amount I get cannot do huge things at ago but with determination and saving discipline, I will make it. As much as I would like to start with a cow, it will not be possible because the amount I receive has to be budgeted for other things such as food and school fees for my children and also the savings to be there. Due to this, buying a cow will be an outcome of the goats' investment which I plan to start with this year's transfers."

Kauchi
received a $28 ninth payment.
"First, I would like to register my gratitude to the organization for the assistance. I used to struggle to make ends meet in terms of getting some food but nowadays the stress has been reduced. Currently, I have a goal that I would like to accomplish by the end of the year. Since I have been sleeping on the floor using some boxes and rags as bedding, I would like to get a bed and a mattress. This will make me sleep comfortably unlike now. Apart from that, I would also like to get some poultry that is; chicken or goats depending on their availability and how affordable they will be. This is because I want to have an investment that will aid me to cater to my family so that I save the amount I will be receiving from GiveDirectly for a bigger project with time."
