Kadzo
received a $442 initial payment.
"I recall being at home with my family when I received my transfer. While I was going through my phone. I noticed that I had a text message on my screen. Because I was intrigued, I asked my sons to read the message to me so that I could understand what it meant. I started jumping up and down in excitement the moment they told me I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was a blessing in my life, and I was overjoyed and grateful for the wonderful gift that came my way. My children were overjoyed and grateful as well."

Jumaa
received a $442 initial payment.
"For many years, I suffered from living in a house that was unsuitable for our children. I was not pleased, even though it was difficult to raise funds for construction at the time due to other pressing family needs. The most significant difference right now is that I have a decent roof over my head. GiveDirectly provided us with an incredible opportunity to transform our lives, for which we are grateful."

Rachael
received a $442 initial payment.
"I remember the day I got my transfer. I didn't hear my phone ring because it was off. When I switched it back on, a message appeared informing me that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was surprised and delighted at the same time. I knew that with the money, I would be able to achieve my objectives. I immediately informed my husband, who was overjoyed. Thereafter, we embarked on planning how we would utilize the funds."

"Getting old is my greatest challenge, i live by seeking help from others because i don't have any energy to work for myself. I receive support from the government which is not enough, i have to seek support from my son Callixte to help cultivate my land and be able to produce what to eat.
I often get sick and to be able to go to the hospital i have to be carried by my children or neighbours because the roads are broken we don't have access to emergency vehicles."

"The place we work in is not fertile , we don't get enough harvest because we don't have fertiliser to use. To be able to get fertiliser we have to herd livestocks from others to get what to use. We have been in a sunny season and we were not able to produce what to eat for a while.
Another challenge we face is having a small house for our family size , we are a big family of 7 people living in one house of two rooms, our children have to sleep all together uncomfortably and some sleeps on the floor because we lack enough facilities to buy them beds to use."
