Karisa
received a $26 fourteenth payment.
"My goal is to complete the construction of my house by the end of this year. Unfortunately, the building process came to a halt due to a shortage of funds. However, I have a plan to strengthen the house by building stone pillars around it to prevent the mud walls from collapsing. This will provide the necessary support and security needed for me to live peacefully inside my home."

Winnie
received a $334 second payment.
"In the next one year and beyond, I hope to expand my business of running a shop and a poshomill. Right now I have stock of goods amounting to slightly more than $100 and I make a profit of hardly $20 per month. Although this income is reasonable, I hope to add stock and make more profits in the long run. This I plan to do by ploughing back profits that I now make from the two businesses that I run. This will also reduce our over reliance on goats and in turn enable us to meet any emerging needs in future."

Margaret
received a $335 second payment.
"Our main house that we stay in has been greatly invaded by termites. It is already at the verge of crumbling down and my initial plan was to repair it and make it better. I however have had to deter my dream of repairing this house and concentrate on paying school fees for my children who are in their secondary level of education. Once my children are out of their secondary school and into their tertiary level then I will be in a position to repair my house and make it more comfortable for me and my family. Right now I am more concerned about seeing my children clear their secondary education. I am happy that one of my daughter s was recently employed by government and she has promised to help me in putting up the structure. I hope that she will be able to do this before the end of this year since I avoided doing the charcoal selling business that I used to do just to concentrate on taking care of her two kids and my mother in law"

Peninah
received a $335 second payment.
"Farming on a leasehold has proven to be a challenging task, as poor management practices often lead to significant losses. The harsh weather conditions, characterized by prolonged droughts, have made it even harder for me to irrigate my crops fully due to a lack of a generator. To address this issue, I plan to save up from my farm's proceeds and purchase a small but efficient generator that can pump enough water to irrigate my crops adequately. This investment will not only benefit my farm but also other farmers who may hire my generator for their farms."

Paulina
received a $335 second payment.
"The timing of the second transfer from GiveDirectly was perfect, as I was facing several challenges at the time. My daughter was beginning her ninth-grade education at a nearby secondary school, and the list of requirements was extensive to the point where I had considered sending her to a local day school instead. However, upon receiving the transfer, I was able to purchase all of the necessary school requirements valued at $200, including two sets of school-branded uniforms, a metal box, shoes, bedding, and textbooks and exercise books. Additionally, I paid her $150 admission fees, allowing her to progress uninterrupted throughout the semester. I also used $90 to purchase two goats, which I intend to rear and sell in the future to pay for my daughter's education. Finally, I spent the remaining funds on a bag of cement to complete an unfinished part of my house."

"GiveDirectly has been able to make a significant positive impact on the lives of the beneficiaries they have supported. The organization has been able to bring about a remarkable transformation in the lives of many individuals who were previously struggling with poverty, including the elderly. Through their support, these individuals are now able to take care of themselves, and the positive changes have left many of the beneficiaries feeling grateful and hopeful for the future. The success of the program has been attributed to their effective implementation strategies, which have been able to meet our needs and transform our lives for the better."

Cynthia
received a $409 initial payment.
"I was taking a nap late in the evening after a tiresome day at the farm. Suddenly, my spouse arrived, waking me up to check my phone for the GD transfers since he had heard from his friends that the money had been sent. Without hesitation, I rushed for my phone and could not believe myself seeing that huge amount in my M-PESA. I was so overjoyed knowing that my dreams will be attained soon."

"It was in the evening, I was winding up my work when suddenly an SMS popped into my phone. On checking it, it was a GiveDirectly transfer. I was so happy that I called my wife to inform her about the good news. Immediately, I transferred all the money to her account as we had planned to use it to pay for my daughter's school fees."

Jepkalal
received a $335 second payment.
"In order to maintain a productive farming operation that generates a significant income, we rely on the seasonal rivers nearby for water. However, the demand for water from other farmers can sometimes lead to the rivers drying up, resulting in significant losses for our tomato crops. To support our farming activities, I plan to grow my cosmetic business in the coming years, since its profitability is not solely reliant on weather conditions. During planting season, I hire a shop attendant to manage the store, ensuring that customers have access to the cosmetic products even when I am occupied with farming duties."

Elizabeth
received a $335 second payment.
"I spent the most recent transfer in different ways to improve my family's livelihood. First, I bought a secondhand motorcycle worth $400, hired a rider, and used it as a taxi, earning a daily income of at least $3. I paid $30 for my son's school fees in Kabarnet and invested the rest in opening a restaurant. The restaurant has been successful, and I have been earning a daily income of at least $5, selling tea, cakes, lunch, and supper. From the savings I have made from the business, I hope to pay school fees for my son, who is currently in grade 9 at Kabarnet Boys. Additionally, I used some of the proceeds to purchase an NHIF medical cover for my family of five. Thanks to the GiveDirectly transfer, my family's standard of living has improved, and we can access basic needs such as education and healthcare."
