"In the coming years, I aim to repair the roof of my house. Currently, the house has a grass-thatched roof that has decayed over time, resulting in water leakage whenever it rains. I aim to replace it with a tin roof to ensure a safer and more comfortable living space for my family. The house consists of two rooms, so completing this project would require approximately 50 pieces of iron sheets. Due to my chest complications, I am unable to work and raise funds for the roof repair project. Therefore, I hope that the continued cash transfers will enable me to implement this plan and provide a secure shelter for my family."

"My primary goal is to save for the education of my firstborn, who will be transitioning to junior high school in the next two years. Junior high school is more expensive than primary school, and I want to ensure that she does not face the risk of missing out on her education due to financial constraints. Given that the income my husband and I earn through casual jobs is insufficient to save for her education and that of her younger siblings, the cash transfers will play a crucial role in making this dream a reality. I am confident that with ongoing support, I will be able to save for her education and provide a brighter future for all my five children."

"My goal for the year is ensure my children are not out of school and I have a better house. We have a one roomed grass thatched house that is dilapidated due to the years of wearing out by wind and rains. Now I am planning to renew the grass thatch but I hope to eventually get a tin roof house which is much bigger with more rooms and in a better condition. I am yet to get an estimate but once we harvest and have food in place I will redirect the money we use for food for this construction project. My children are currently home as they were ent away from school I hope that with time I will also increase the amounts I sent to school to avoid such incidences in the future."

Josphat received a $381 second payment.
"I had started building a house using the first transfer, but unfortunately I did not manage to complete it, so when the second transfer was received, I proceeded to complete the house. I used $200 for all the expenses, which included the installation of ceiling boards and wall painting. For a moment, I flashed back the memories of living in that old grass thatched single-roomed house, and I felt so privileged; my time to marry was to now be in a beautiful two-bedroom house, which was an impossible thing, but this was soon made possible by GiveDirectly transfers. Secondly, I purchased two cows, a male and a female, for $200 and $100, respectively. This will help me as I plan on having a family in that when they arrive, they will have something to do and earn some money from it,like selling milk. Also, the male one will come in handy in the future, when I will sell it at a good price and make good money. Finally, I had to pay a debt from my high school, which was $50, to get my certificate so I could proceed with my further education. I have been using my results slip to look for jobs, and now most jobs are asking for the certificate, which I had to go for."

"The time that GiveDirectly came in was one of the most difficult times we have ever faced as a community. We had not done farming for two years because of the prolonged drought, so having food in our homes was a problem. We are grateful to give direct transfers because we have been shielded from the worst; luckily, the rains are here too, and we have bought seedlings and fertilizers to do farming without too much struggle. Through the transfers, our people are made responsible not by choice but for ensuring that the transfers are used in a proper and beneficial way. GiveDirectly has also demonstrated fairness and transparency in this program, which has encouraged many people."

"Ever since I completed my tailoring training, my dream has been to own a sewing machine and start my own tailoring business in the village. Unfortunately, with the limited income my husband earns from his motorcycle taxi business, it has been challenging to set aside enough funds to fulfill this dream. Thankfully, with the cash transfers, I now have a greater opportunity to purchase the equipment I need. My goal is to save enough money by the end of the year to acquire a sewing machine. In addition to the tailoring shop, I also aspire to start a vegetable-selling business to supplement my income. Ultimately, I aim to achieve financial stability, contribute to the household's needs, and alleviate the burden on my husband's shoulders."

"My goal is to start livestock rearing as a means of livelihood to reduce the financial burdens in my household. I am incredibly grateful for the previous cash transfers, as they have allowed me to acquire three goats and four chickens. By owning this livestock, I will accumulate enough wealth that will help my family's living conditions and support my children's education. It brings me great joy to envision them studying without any interruptions due to a lack of school fees."

"Supporting the education of my five children until they complete high school is a primary goal for me. My husband works at a logistics company, but his salary is received at the end of the month, which often makes it challenging to cover all of our household needs. Additionally, his income alone is not sufficient to meet all the financial requirements. Therefore, I aspire to contribute to financing our children's education and alleviate the burden on my husband's shoulders. I firmly believe that investing in their education is crucial for their future success and well-being. Through the cash transfers, I hope to have the means to support them in their educational journey."
