"Before receiving the transfer, life in the village was very tough. I had no access to basic social amenities and had already planned to relocate to a better village. Receiving the cash made that dream possible because I have already built my three-bedroom brick house, and I'm only left with the roofing, which will be done soon."

"I was resting at home around 3:00 p.m. when I received the message. The phone was in the house. I was happy, laughed, and said thank you. My first thought was to call my husband, who was in Mombasa, and inform him. He was excited and told me to wait for him before using the cash. He traveled back home the next day, and we both planned for the money."

"I was at the church at around 4:00 p.m. when I received the transfer message. I read the message and went on with my business. I was happy, laughed, and said, “Thank you, Lord.” I went home afterward and started planning for the cash. My first thought was that I would finally be able to fulfill my plans. I was grateful that my prayers had been answered."

"I was at home doing my routine house chores at around 12 noon when I received the cash transfer message. I checked the message to confirm if it was the cash I had been anticipating. After confirming, I was super excited and started giggling out of joy. My first thought was to build a house, as I had planned earlier. I immediately sent my son to buy the iron sheets to get started."

"I had been struggling to provide proper shelter for my family for a long time. Our current mud house was in bad condition, and I really needed to build a better home for us. I used $240 to build the foundation for my mud house and purchase other building materials. I spent $50 to pay for my daughter's tailoring exams; she was enrolled in a tailoring college and needed to complete her final exams. I also used $180 to buy her a tailoring machine so she could start a tailoring business, which will be a good source of income. I spent $50 to buy a sack of maize because we had no food. I used the remaining $30 to buy some building materials for my son's house, which I plan to build with my second transfer."

"My life was very hard and of a low standard before receiving the cash. Getting the cash has honestly changed my life a lot, as I was able to improve my living standards. The biggest difference I have experienced is being able to build a proper shelter for my family. I have already moved into the new house."

"My mud house was in very bad condition and was no longer fit for shelter. The grass-thatched roof had been destroyed by pests, and during the rainy season, we would always get rained on. I decided to prioritize building a proper shelter for my family. I spent $440 to buy materials and pay for labor to build a two-roomed mud house. I used $45 to buy a sack of maize because we had no food at all. With the remaining $65, I added it to some of my savings to buy a cow that was being sold around the village. I had been interested in investing in livestock rearing for a while."
