"God willing, I hope to see my cereal business grow in the coming year so that I can build my savings through a sacco. At the moment, I anticipate that the burden of paying school fees will be lessened because my daughter will be attending university and will be awarded a student loan to cover her school fees. These savings will help me diversify my business by allowing me to purchase a dairy cow that will produce milk not only for my own consumption but also surplus for sale as an additional source of income."

"Because of the consistent support provided by GiveDirectly since we enrolled in the program, everyone can now afford basic necessities. I appreciate the overall approach, as well as the fact that the office has maintained constant contact to ensure that everyone received the transfer and is able to report on spending decisions as needed. The entire procedure went smoothly, and hopefully the same method will be used in other villages."

"I happen to have six children who are still pursuing an education, so keeping them in school is my top priority. I intend to use the organization's funds to cover any costs or debts incurred during their studies. Furthermore, as a consequence of the drought, at times me and my family go hungry, and so I plan on using these funds to cater for our nourishment, especially during those days when we have nothing to eat. I will also be very glad if I am able to buy a couple of farm animals, preferably a couple of goats and poultry, that will come in handy when I run out of cash and when we experience financial problems."

"I am currently operating a tailoring shop which has been my only source of income so far. My dream is to expand this shop and buy textile materials to run it. I am planning to buy a new sewing machine in months to come which cost Ksh.10000. I will be saving the monthly transfer for this purpose. With this new machine, I will be able to train others at a fee, thus earning more income."

"Since my husband passed away two years ago, I have been the only one paying for our children's school costs, clothing, food, and other necessities. Our house was not in great shape when he passed away. You can understand how difficult it is to meet all of their expectations given that I only generate a $4 weekly profit from the charcoal business that I own, especially given the current surge in commodity prices. My modest income prevented me from building a new house, but I'm delighted that the transfers allowed me to replace the roof. Our lives are in danger because the wall is still cracked throughout, allowing stray reptiles to enter the house. So, my current objective is to rebuild the walls. I'll do this by setting away $15 per month to buy the necessary construction supplies. I'll start raising hens or goats for future investment once I've finished it.."

"This initiative gave a new face to every household and more so the whole village. We were given a chance to listen and decide on how to spend the transfer independently without being coerced. I can't see anything to complain about, but to just encourage GiveDirectly to keep supporting other villages as well."

"As I was busy planting some maize seeds on the farm, I heard a message tone from my phone. Due to curiosity since that was the exact day I was expecting to receive some money from GiveDirectly, I left for home immediately to get someone to check for me. When I reached home, my helper was around. He checked and confirmed that it was true I had received the first transfer of $550. My heart cooled down in happiness and I was filled with peace knowing that, the investment promise I kept to the officer was going to pass."

"I had gone to the shopping center to pick up my phone where it was charging when I heard people talking about the first transfer. Since my phone had been off the whole day, I was worried about missing out on the transfer. Upon picking it up, I switched it on while in low esteem. In less than a minute a message popped in. I rushed to my helper to check if I had also received the transfer. Upon checking, he confirmed that I had also received the transfer from GiveDirectly. My heart was filled with joy and thanksgiving for being successful in the GiveDirectly enrolment knowing that my plans were going to work out."

"In my opinion, what Give Directly does so well is the fact that they give out unconditional transfers, different people have different needs and therefore it would be of no importance if the transfers had any restrictions on the spending patterns. Another thing that is done perfectly is the fact that the transfers are given in lump sum amounts and this helps in planning purposes in terms of the developments that the recipients would wish to engage in at a personal level. Unlike other projects where it is given in small amounts. To avoid household conflict, what needs to be done differently is enrolling all the individuals in the household. During enrollment, those individuals who did not have responsibilities by then were left out of the program yet these are the same people who steal from their old and vulnerable parents. Another thing that needs to be done differently is enrolling all the communities in a specific village for uniformity purposes and this will prevent too many complaints coming from the communities that are left out during the registration to the programs"

"My children having a good bed and mattress, the fact that we now have a decent house to call home and having visited my ailing father makes me really happy. All these have brought so much joy and difference in my life and that of my family. They are the things that I had always desired to accomplish but which I could not do because of lack of money. My husband and I have three children and my husband is a motorist while I do farming. The money that we get from these jobs is hardly enough to help us make ends meet."
