Sanita
received a $443 initial payment.
"My house was too small for the eight children and the two of us. We were forced to endure because we lacked the funds to secure a suitable house. My husband is a mason and I am a farmer, but what we produce on a daily basis is insufficient to meet all of our needs. When I received my transfer, my husband and I decided to use our money to build a two-bedroom house for $460. We then purchased two goats for $60, paid $20 in school fee arrears, and spent the remainder on groceries. All of this was previously impossible due to financial constraints. We will be eternally grateful for the help that has brought us so much."

"I'm a business lady with low income which is not enough to sustain my family. My husband has no job at all, he mostly work on our farm and that makes me the sole bread winner. Mostly we depend on our farm produce for food. So I spent $70 on 2 goats and I'll be using them to remember Give Directly. I then spent $10 on layers, I hope they shall lay more eggs and hatch. My son had also wished to purchase a piece of land so to support him, I added him $100 to pay for the land. I then gave my husband $100 which he used to prepare our farm, buy maize seedlings and plant. I used $170 to start a maize business where by I buy maize from local farmers and sell it to outsiders. I also used $80 to buy decent clothes and shoes for myself. I'm happy that right now I can have a good dress to wear incase I need to go to a presentable function."

received a $214 second payment.
"I am a widow living with 7 children after the death of my spouse one year ago. Life has not been easy since I am jobless and 5 of the kids are still schooling. I spent $150 of the recent transfer to clear all the fees arrears for my children. This is because I had stopped paying their school fee since I used all our savings to nurse my late spouse. At the moment, I am happy that my kids are learning without any challenges. Furthermore, I used all the remaining amount to complete the construction of our two-roomed, mud-walled, iron-roofed house that I started with the first transfer. Previously, I was living in a small one-roomed house with my eight children."

"The house we rent is very small and uncomfortable, we don't have the capacity of building our own house because the small amount of money we work for we use it in our expenses and providing food for our family.
We currently don't have enough land, to have food on our table we have to rent a land and be able to cultivate what to eat."

"I hope to buy a piece of land as soon as I raise enough money. I was not lucky to get married so I'm still living at my parents' home. I would wish to get a big piece of land that costs between $700 to $800. I'm hoping to save money from my hotel business to be able to acquire that land."

Rose
received a $428 second payment.
"I spent the second transfer paying school fees worth $ 400 for my two daughters. I am a mother of six, 4 girls and 2 boys. A family of 8 including my husband who is a farmer and cattle keeper. $. 150 helped with buying food, clothes, and household utensils, which had been a great challenge. Before I started receiving the transfer since I am a farmer and own 2 cows, I used to harvest maize from my farm, milk my cows and sell to my neighbors in order to pay for their schools. This was near impossible since we experienced a lot of droughts which resulted in a lack of milk and a good harvest. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support, you have put a smile on my face."

"Between 1995-2016, my husband was working in a mining company, at least he was able to get $30 per month, but now the life had changed too bad, my child was dropped out of school when she was 16 years old because I can't afford her school fees when she was in her second year of high school. I have sold all my 2 cows in order to pay my debt in bank, and because there was no fertlizers, I was not able to get enough yield to feed my family. I used to have a small business of selling livestocks (sheeps and goats) in 20221 but now that business failed because of using all my investment of 200$ in feeding my family and paying schollfees of my children"
