"I had 2 children but unfortunately they all passed away. I move up and down to make ends meet so as to sustain myself as there is no one that depends on me. I make a living by selling chips, chapati, mangoes and in the process make a profit of $2 a day and at times I even go home without selling anything. I want to save enough so as to be able to expand my business and increase my profit. I am really grateful to GiveDirectly for the transfer that they give without any strings attached to it."

"The only thing I desire the most now is to change the floor of my house. I have a good house but the flooring has to be improved. I also want to start a small business where I can easily sell little things like match boxes, salt and soap and I will later expand my business to a big shop after attracting a lot of customers."

"After finishing form four, I was forced to look for a job because of the financial constraints that made me not join any technical or college. I intend to start saving money so that I can enroll in a driving school. I want to learn how to operate a truck so I can get a job as a truck driver. I want to be transporting specialized loads to Mombasa as I have seen there are a lot of things that need to be transported and not enough drivers are available."

"I am a mother who only wants what's best for her children. I work really hard and all that I want is for my children to complete their studies and transform their lives.I also want to grow my soap selling business so that I can at least make enough money and cover my family's expenses. I am happy that people are now noticing my business and come looking for me at home and when they need the soap I do deliver it to those who do order. I am grateful that I am able to make a profit of $4 after I sell the soaps I make."

"My husband is a hawker in Mombasa who makes and sells soap to his clients. Sometimes he makes profit and at times he sells nothing. I want to start my own business where I can sell vegetables and at least make a huge profit and help my husband out in meeting our day to day expenses. I am confident that I will generate a profit of at least $2 so that I will be able to save enough money. People are barely making it through this drought and some are dying because of lack of anything to eat and drink. I will also want to at least help out in curbing the hunger issue by selling to my locals at afford prices."

"I lost the 8 goats I had due to the drought as there was not enough water and grass for them to feed on. I decided to go job hunting in Mombasa and occasionally I find something to bring home but at times I leave empty handed. I work as a carpenter who makes tables and sometimes I burn charcoal and sell it. When I save enough money, I want to start a greengrocery where I will produce vegetables like lettuce and tomatoes and sell them to my neighbors."

"I am currently looking after my 12 cattle as I have no job at the moment. With the transfers I get, I believe I will be able to save enough money to start my own kiosk where I can sell things like flour, oil, milk and among other things. The reason why I want to start this kiosk is to make it easy for my neighbors to have an easy time in terms of the long distance they usually cover when going to get something from the shop. It will also keep me busy and earn me a source of income that will benefit my family in general."

"I am confident that once my house is finished, I will start a business of selling chicken by purchasing them in large numbers. Before, I was raising 50 chickens but a disease stuck and killed every fowl I owned. I wish to start that business because it's inexpensive to start and one can easily make a ton of money from that business and better one's life. I believe that the future is bright because the little things I do will make a big impact in my life."
