"I had visit my sister's place in the nearby town. I spent almost the entire day there. At around 4 pm, I returned home where I heard the news about the transfers. For all that time, I had removed my sim card from the phone. After inputting it back I was surprised to learn that I had received the transfer too. I was very happy for receiving my transfers, I shared the good news with my husband who was at home on leave. We both celebrated and thank Givedirectly for the transfer."

"My older son is in the 12th grade class so i used 100.00 USD for his school and the younger brother who is in grade 6, i used 23.00USD for his school fees as well. I didn't really go far in school due to some personal problems but it's my plan that my kids should become educated inorder to bring honour to our family. Also i will feel so excited seeing them achieve what i couldn't do and they will not have to live this poverty life i am living. And i used 100.00USD in a saving club where at the end of the year we will share it along with the profits and i will be able to improve my family lives."

Jumwa received a $28 sixth payment.
"By the end of the year, I would like to have bought four more goats. Since I have no course of income, rearing livestock is the ideal chance I have to raise money for the education of my two children who are still in primary school. After I have bought the goats, I plan to start saving towards building a more spacious two-room house for my children and me. The current one-room structure, which doubles as a kitchen, is tiny for all of us. "

"Not to completely rely on my son, I wish to own a business selling vegetables. I believe I will make enough profits to cover basic needs, like food, and relieve the burden off his shoulders. At least this would give him ample time to raise money for other things like school fees for his children. I would be happy if I could save enough from the next cash transfers to start the business. "

"In the next year and beyond, I hope to have bought two goats to increase my herd to nine goats. Since I started receiving the transfers, I have not been able to buy an animal bigger than a chicken because of the hunger situation in the household. Although things are still tough, I believe that I will be able to save throughout the year until I afford the two goats. After that is done, I plan to start saving for a cow as well. "

"I received a message around 4:00 p.m. confirming the receipt of the first transfer from GiveDirectly. I was not sure who sent it at first, but after reading it, I realized it was a confirmation message of the promise they made during enrollment. I was home alone and had to wait for my husband, who arrived around 6:00 p.m. I broke the news to both of us, which was very exciting."

"We moved away from the land we had built on the lake's edge ten years ago when the lake waters rose and covered most of our land and eventually houses. Since then, we have been looking for a place to live on a neighbor's vast land, which, while not ideal, I am grateful for because he generously donated that piece for us to live on. Due to its proximity to the lake, the first stop was a swampy area that would be infested with wild animals and snakes. We later moved to a raised ground on the same land owned by a neighbor and began building a new house, which we never finished. We were unable to build a good house due to the movement, but I am grateful that after receiving the transfer, we were able to put up a spacious structure made of iron sheet walls, with three cubicle rooms shared by my family of eight. I also spent $105 on 15 bags of cement, $40 on sand, and $10 on labor. I am grateful and hope to use the remaining funds to pay school fees and purchase goats. We had relied extensively on casual labor, which included working on other people's farms and I hope to see a lot changing with the support we are getting in the subsequent transfers."

"Around 4 p.m., I received a message on my phone, and after reading it to understand its content, I realized I had received the first transfer. I was not expecting anything similar, so I knew it had to be from GiveDirectly. I was extremely happy when I told my husband, who was also at home at the time. We later walked together to the shopping center and collected the entire amount before making the first purchases."
