Amani
received a $28 tenth payment.
"I had told you earlier that I live in a one room house with my children. This is a very uncomfortable situation as we are all squeezed in in a very small space. I want to build a house this year with four rooms using GD transfers. I have been able to accumulate sheep over my last11 transfers which amount to 8 sheep. I believe that from the young ones they have I will have more sheep which I can sell to get money to substitute for roofing which is the most expensive part of the project. I also want to now focus on saving to add a cow before I can resume with buying more sheep. I believe animals for me are a good resource and provide a good emergency fund."

Elizabeth
received a $28 sixth payment.
"My goals this year are very simple. I want to finish patching up the roof now, to prepare for the rainy season although we have been experiencing a drought. This will need 18 dollars that i will get from my GD transfers. I want also to create my own source of income. I am a tailor who rents out machines from people to make clothes and they will usually charge me 15 dollars to rent it monthly. I make about 45 dollars a month which means that once I pay for the machine I am only left with 35 dollars. I want to increase my earnings and so I am planning to Save 15 dollars a month so I can reach my goal of 150 dollars in ten months which I will use to buy my own machine making me independent."

Neema
received a sixth payment.
"I finished my form four exams but was unable to further my studies since their was no money to pay for my college education. I am currently seeing the hope of my pursuing a course in tourism specifically as a tour guide which has been my long dream. I hope to get money from the merry go round when its my turn which I will use to settle the school fees for this. I am also now interested in being diagnosed of my ailment as it was something I had not foreseen and I hope to use Givedirectly transfers to achieve this and while also taking care of the treatment of whatever this stomach issue is as now I am not aware what it may be."

Sidi
received a sixth payment.
"I do not want my granddaughter to miss out on school because of finances. My plan is to save for three months to cover her school fees needs as this is her last year in school. She is required to pay 90 dollars per term as school fees and if I save 30 dollars of my monthly transfers I will be able to achieve this. I also hope to add chicken over a period of months to create sort of an emergency fund for the family. Some days we do not have money but if we have maybe chicken we can sell and use the money to sort out the food or any other needs that arise."

Kasiwa
enrolled.
"The prolonged droughts which have encroached on our area have greatly affected our ways of food production. Since we depend on subsistence farming, this means our farm produce has gone down, a situation that has forced me to engage in the small business of vending vegetables. This job has not attracted significant profit because of the small capital and I, therefore, majorly depend on my husband who is currently a conductor. His daily income is $3, which only goes to food, leaving us with nothing to save for our future. What a miserable life! Skipping our meals has become the order of the day while my children's education has also been affected due to the lack of fees. Hence, I consider the lack of a stable source of income to be my biggest challenge."

Zawadi
received a $440 second payment.
"I'm a village elder and as you know, my job has no salary at all. I have 5 children to take care of; 1 is in secondary school and 4 are in primary school. I was eagerly waiting for the second transfer because my firstborn child was out of school due to a school fees balance of $300. So I went straight to clear it to have my child in school like her mates. You made it much easier for me because before, I used to get money from charcoal/firewood sales which have always never been enough. We would even go for a whole day without a meal, so I needed to stock food and feel comfortable about it. So I bought 1 bag of maize worth $30 and 1 bag of beans worth $20. I also spent $80 on 2 goats which I intend to keep as they continue to reproduce, I know later I'll sell them and use the money resourcefully. I'm a member of a merry-go group where we save and later take loans, so I saved $120 with them, hoping to qualify for a loan later."

Sunnyboy
received a $239 third payment.
"Givedirectly has empowered me and many others for the future. If Givedirectly leaves today, many of us will have something to show. The face of our town has and the competition of building a modern house has taken a center stage through the support of Givedirectly which is very commendable. So far there is nothing they could do better because they does very well in fulfilling their promises as we were told during the program official launching in our town."
