"I am very grateful to GiveDirectly for giving me hope and restoring my faith in that good people still exist. The majority of my villagers have achieved the majority of the things they never dreamed they would because of what GiveDirectly has done for us. Thank you so much for the unconditional transfers that you have given us. We are really grateful for that."

"According to my opinion, what Give Directly does so well is that they give out unconditional transfers, different people have different needs, and we have the freedom how to spend the transfers so long as it is something that does not harm us together with community members. The transfers are given in lump sum amounts and this helps in planning purposes in terms of the developments that we would wish to engage in at a personal level. Unlike other projects where it is given in small amounts. To avoid household conflict, what needs to be done differently is enrolling all the individuals in the household. During enrollment, those individuals who did not have responsibilities by then were left out of the program yet these are the same people who steal from their old and vulnerable parents. Another thing that needs to be done differently is enrolling all the communities in a specific village for uniformity purposes and this will prevent too many complaints coming from the communities that are left out during the registration to the programs"

"Most of our family income was used to pay school fees and this made our house stall for about a year. This second transfer from GiveDirectly was a sign of relief to us. We budgeted KES 36000 to complete our new home. We were also struggling with school fee arrears of KES 9000 which we cleared when we received our second transfer."

"Like most parents, I'm sure, my greatest wish is to see my children complete their education. Education is the greatest stepping stone I can offer them. With a good set of qualifications, the world would be their oyster! I wish I could live to see this dream become reality."

"What GiveDirectly does well is giving people unconditional cash transfers. I believe many poor people have the potential of changing their live and only that, they are limited by their financial incapability. This is so evident because the cash transfers helped many people to transform their lives."

"Both my husband and I are casual labourers. I do laundry and clean other people's houses in the neighborhood to earn living while my husband fetches and sells water to the neighbors. Due to our low daily wages, we have never been prevailed to own a cow and therefore, we have been buying milk for our children and a litre of milk goes for $0.8. Since my husband and I earns an average daily wage of $2, we have never been able to save towards buying things that we admire most in life such as dairy cow. I spend $300 to buy a dairy cow which is most likely to give birth this year, $150 to pay school fees for my child who's in high school and the balance to buy clothes for my six children who had torn clothes. I can't wait to sell milk and earn income and improve my standards of living."

"For the last one year, our business(a local cyber cafe and a bookshop) was not doing well due to effects of inflation and that caused hard economic times.Since it is our only source of income, we spend most of the profit to pay school fees for our children and cater for basic needs and we were left less amount to add more stock. We were living in fear of seeing our business collapse because it's the only source of income we have known for years. We spend $400 of the second transfer to add more stock to our business and we have noticed an increase in income. Previously, we used to earn daily profit of between $2 to $2.5 and right now, it has increased to $5 a day. I spend the balance to buy food and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for saving my business from collapsing."
