"I have built my house but there was no money to plaster. Therefore, when I received my last transfer, I purchased few begs of cement and sand to complete my project."

"Givedirectly has done well especially by giving cash to recipients and allowing them to decide what to do with it. Based on this, most of us were able to build, sent our children to school and also some got involved in petty businesses. Therefore, I strongly believe that giving cash to someone and allowing them to decide for themselves is the best way and this can help to get rid of poverty in the world at large."

Kanze
received a $432 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did so well by helping me financially. This was the best since we all have different needs therefore we would choose what works well for us. This empowered me to own assets that I think would take years for me to have in my homestead. Therefore all went well and there is no need for them to change their mode of operation."

"Receiving free cash transfers was the best thing that could have happened to our entire village. This included the freedom to spend our money however we saw fit based on the immediate challenges we wanted to address. I am grateful to have been a part of a program that was executed so fairly, as everyone in the village went through the same interview and was accepted into the program. We later received the same amount of money that changed our living standards."

Caroline
received a $432 second payment.
"I spent $300 on a cow that is currently 8 months in calf after receiving the second transfer. I had always relied on a friend's cow, which I had kept to provide milk for my family of five. I'm relieved that I'll soon have enough milk for both our household needs and surplus sales. In addition, I paid $150 in university tuition for my daughter. I used to rely on subsistence farming for a portion of her school fees, but due to the uncertainty of the harvest's quality, I sometimes struggled to keep her in school. I am glad GiveDirectly increased the payment, as it gives me more time to work while I save for the next term. In addition, I spent the remaining funds spent on household items such as food and clothing for my children."

"GiveDirectly was superb and did an outstanding job, elevating many people in our community. Many families used to live in old huts but have since built new homes, while others have purchased livestock that now provides enough milk for their families. On the other hand, even the middle class was treated fairly and was not excluded. The majority of them invested in land and school fees for their children. I am glad that most of the people in our village heeded the pieces of advice given, and the outcome of their work has been amazing."

Esther
received a $418 second payment.
"Providing for my family of five has been difficult, especially during this drought season when all farm produce has been burned. We had been buying food from the market and milk from the village, both of which were very expensive. When I received the second transfer, I felt relieved. To reduce my daily milk purchases using at least $2, I spent $500 on a lactating dairy cow that produced enough milk for my family and a surplus to sell, giving us a daily income of at least $3. I then used the rest of the money to buy food for my family, which I am glad we did throughout the month."

"I spent almost $400 on my second transfer to purchase all the necessary building materials. I had intended to construct a new house because the initial was in poor condition, and leaked during rains. Ever since I got married, I have never enjoyed it. This is because it had become a routine for me always seek shelter from my relatives during the harsh climatic change. I am now happy together with my give children since we no longer have to worry about the rains or any trouble in society. Also, I paid school fees for all my children who are still in primary school so they to sit for their exams. Later on, I bought a bicycle to support me in carrying the jerricans when fetching water from the dams. I feel relieved because I will no longer be using my head or back hence no more pain. Also, I cleared a debt of $30 to a friend which I now have peace of mind. Additionally, I bought solar which will be used by my children in doing their school assignments at night. Back then, they were using candles which were harmful to their health moreover very expensive. With the remaining amount of decent clothes and food."

Dama
received a $27 sixth payment.
"My main goal currently is to continue saving Ksh. 1000 every month in order to buy 22 pieces of iron sheets. The objective is to renovate my living house's roof, which is weak and dilapidated. I am saving money in our local merry-go-round group, which consists of 14 members. I believe that very soon after getting my savings back, I will be able to buy the iron sheets and start the renovation."
