Dorcas
received a $391 second payment.
"GiveDirectly has made a difference in my life. I've accomplished things I didn't think I'd be able to do anytime soon. I now have a solar panel that provides energy to our home at a low cost. This has made us feel connected to the community and the country at large, through our mobile phones, where we are reachable unlike before, and also because we have a radio, which allows us to get information about what is going on in the country. It has also spared us from the costly cost of kerosene, which is what we previously used; we were occasionally left in the dark due to the fact that we did not have enough money to buy kerosene.
People in our community have advanced as well. This is evident in the fact that people have built better houses, that those who were struggling to pay school fees have paid them all this time, and that those who did not have cows have purchased one or two through the transfers. As a result, I'd like to express our gratitude to GiveDirectly for having affected our lives in various ways."

Zawadi
received a $26 ninth payment.
"Since we have been living in extreme poverty, I have not been able to increase the size of my livestock. However, with the assurance of my transfers, I hope to improve my livestock keeping. I will prioritize buying additional goats and improving my poultry farming. Currently, I only have one goat and two hens. With an increase in the number of goats and domestic fowls, raising cash for school fees and other emergency needs will not be a struggle for me. Presently, I feel more stressed when we have a need that requires an immediate financial commitment."

Chepkoech
received a $391 second payment.
"Our objective for this year and beyond is to ensure that we have cleared my husband's school fee arrears and that he has succeeded so that he may get a job and make better our lives. We have been unable to do anything else because paying for his schooling has been prohibitively expensive for us.
After he finishes his studies, I plan to attend college for education training using the money saved from vegetable farming and if my husband has found a job by then."

Paulo
received a $392 second payment.
"My hope for the upcoming years is to purchase a machine for $500 that can help me in removing the coffee berries from their covers in my 300-tree coffee plantation. The work of harvesting berries is very strenuous, and I am looking for a more efficient and less physically demanding way of preparing them. I plan to achieve this by saving from my existing business and farming activities, knowing that every little bit of savings will count towards reaching my goal. The new equipment will assist me in increasing my production and yields, which will ultimately enhance my business and livelihood."

Samwel
received a $392 second payment.
"In the upcoming year and beyond, I aim to intensify my attention towards animal husbandry, which I recently commenced with the aid of the second transfer. At the moment, I possess a heifer, and I intend to increase my livestock by acquiring additional animals in the future. Furthermore, I am in the process of constructing a chicken house that will serve as a foundation for my upcoming poultry venture. By engaging in these two initiatives, I anticipate supplementing my family's income by trading livestock-related products such as eggs, milk, and the offspring."

Mercy
received a $406 second payment.
"In the coming year and beyond, my primary goal is to construct a new kitchen that matches my newly constructed house. While I am proud of my new home, the old kitchen detracts from its overall aesthetic and functionality. I believe that by constructing a new kitchen, I will enhance the value of my home and improve my daily living conditions. However, I am aware that my financial situation is challenging, and paying school fees remains a priority. As a result, I have been unable to complete the floors in my home. To address this issue, I am currently part of an informal savings group, and I hope to use the funds from my turn to complete the flooring project. Ultimately, I hope to strike a balance between improving the quality of my living conditions and providing for my family's basic needs."

Katana
received a $26 sixth payment.
"I have always desired to own cows but financial constraints and lack of relevant resources have been a major obstacle. There are so many benefits that I could rip from owning cattle. I could sell the milk they produce as well as hire them out for plowing tasks to raise funds. However, the far my income, from selling chewing sticks, can take me is secure food for my wife and four children; I cannot afford to buy cows with it. In the next few years, I hope to have saved enough money from the cash transfers to obtain at least 5 calves and let them grow. "

Ramson
received a $26 fourteenth payment.
"My wish is to pull my family out of poverty and lift the heavy burden off of my mother’s shoulders. She has suffered for a long time and struggled to make charcoal to provide for my five siblings and me; it is time I took over. After I complete high school this year, I want to initiate a project of rearing goats and cows. I believe that building wealth through livestock is the surest way to bring prosperity to my family. As the herd grows, I could sell some of these animals to support the education of my five siblings who are still in primary school. "

Benard
received a $406 second payment.
"With the current amount offered to households, an immense change can be seen. Houses have been upgraded from grass-thatched to iron-roofed, dairy cows have been bought, and assets have been added at large. Lives have changed, so to say, thanks to GiveDirectly. It is only my appeal that the transfer amount be increased and prolonged to cater to other needs that have not been met."
