Amani
received a fourteenth payment.
"Our major plan is to build construct a family house. The one we are currently living is is almost falling down. We are sleeping and cooking in the same room. I will now be able to have a separate kitchen. I have two boys and two girls. Our plan is to build a four roomed house, where my sons and daughters will have separate rooms.
I will invest more in livestock rearing and continue educating my children. My eldest child is 9 years old, followed by a 6 year old then a 4 year old and the youngest being 3 years. I feel they are young and we would wish to sustain educating them comfortably."

Florence
received a $144 initial payment.
"Just a week after giving birth to my firstborn baby, I received the initial transfer from GiveDirectly. Our primary concern at that time was the scarcity of food, and both my husband and I were worried as we relied on his occasional wages from casual labor. The first transfer brought immense relief, and we decided to allocate $40 to purchase a goat that we could slaughter and store its meat for several weeks, saving us from buying smaller quantities at higher costs. My goal was to tap the nutritious soup that would help in breastfeeding and also speed my recovery as I looked forward to resuming my regular duties. Additionally, we used $45 to buy a new bed, replacing the old one that was beyond repair. We stored the old bed to fix it later when we have an extra room. It's a joy to finally sleep comfortably without the creaking noises from the bed joints. I also allocated $20 for my infant's clothing and $65 for food, including maize grains, sugar, tea leaves, milk, and other household necessities. An additional $10 covered transportation to and from the shopping center. Moreover, I made a $10 advance payment to a neighbor for a yet-to-be-born young goat, planning to purchase them while they are young as they are more affordable compared to mature goats. Furthermore, I settled a $15 debt with a neighbor and provided $10 to support my sister's upkeep while she continues her studies."

Rhoda
received a $130 initial payment.
"I am thrilled to share that my long-awaited dream of creating a separate room for my two daughters and two sons has finally become a reality. When the first payment from GiveDirectly arrived, a wave of relief washed over me, and without hesitation, we began procuring the necessary construction materials. I purchased 9 iron sheets for $93, five wooden frames for $16, and nails for $7. Thankfully, I already had windows and doors, so I only needed to cover the labor cost of $20. The room is now complete, and my daughters are enjoying the well-deserved privacy just like my two sons had in the previous shared space. Additionally, I spent $10 on maize flour, which served as our primary foodstuff, and $9 for other essential household items. With the remaining $25, I acquired another goat to expand our existing herd of 50 goats, which has proven invaluable during emergencies, that include paying for my children's school fees and ensuring an adequate food supply for our household."

Baraka
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"My ultimate goal as a husband and father is to provide my wife and daughter with a better quality of life where necessities such as food, housing, and clothing are not a concern. Currently, my focus is on relocating from my paternal compound and acquiring a piece of land. This would allow me to build a decent home for my family. I believe that living separately from my extended family would help avoid conflicts and encourage personal growth and development."

received a tenth payment.
"I aim to establish my carpentry workshop once I finish college next year. I believe that with the skills I will have acquired by then, it will be more convenient for me to start my own business rather than seek employment elsewhere. To achieve this, it is crucial for me to continue using the cash transfers to support my education. Additionally, I will strive to save some of the funds as initial capital for the workshop, ensuring that I have a solid foundation to start my entrepreneurial journey."

Kadhengi
received a fourteenth payment.
"Growing up, I witnessed my mother's struggles as a widow, providing for my two siblings and me through charcoal burning. Her lack of a supporting hand and our family's precarious financial situation make things even more challenging. Currently, our house is in a state of disrepair, especially the deteriorating palm leaf roof that allows water to seep in during rainy seasons. My ultimate happiness would be to build my mother a stable and decent house, preferably one with brick walls and a tin roof. After I graduate from welding college next month, I have faith that I will be able to generate the necessary funds to accomplish this goal and provide my mother with the comfortable home she deserves."

Priscilar
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I've always wanted to own run a small business, ideally a retail shop. This will be my primary priority as soon as I am able to save a sizable sum of money. This would provide my family with a source of income and make it easier for us to cover our basic necessities, such as food and the kids' tuition. Unfortunately, because I am currently the only provider in the household and all of my income goes toward meeting daily expenses, I am not in a position to start saving."

Jumaa
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal is to build an electrical shop where I will sell electrical goods and where potential consumers may meet me once I have finished school and taken my final exam in August. I want to do this by setting aside some of the monthly transfer and money earned from working on casual jobs. Additionally, I want to raise my chicken from the present 20 to somewhere around 50. After raising these chicken for a while and ready for maket, I'll sell them and buy a young cow to raise instead."

Hamisi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"With the aim of escaping a tiresome, low-paying job, I aspire to embark on either a vegetable selling or a fast food restaurant business. By doing so, I can alleviate the financial strain and provide for my family's needs, while also attaining a stable financial standing. However, the realization of these plans hinges on the consistent rainfall we are presently experiencing, which will ensure a bountiful harvest. Consequently, I can accumulate more funds to invest in my desired business endeavors."
