"I used my money mainly for agricultural purposes and to improve my house. I have been doing casual labour in people’s farms as a farm hand and that gave me hands on skills for farming which I thought I could use to produce food for my family. I had a heifer which at the time had not been producing milk yet and I thought it wise to add another which already was producing milk and I spent $350 to buy a dairy cow that had just had a calf. I also bought seeds and paid people to till my land where I planted maize and beans. I also got a chance to put a ceiling in the house which I had built with my first transfers and bought chairs for the home."

"Givedirectly has brought a great turnabout in my life. I now am a farmer as my new house is located next the farm so I am not worried about running late and missing out on a place to sleep since I now have my house. I am now able to access food as I am farming green grams, maize, vegetables and my family will enjoy them at harvest time"

"My husband lives in Malindi and he works in the area as a Public service vehicle(PSV) driver but he never gets steady jobs as he is a “squad driver”, meaning he only gets a chance to drive when the other drivers are unavailable. This has made it very difficult for our family to make ends meet. I do not have a source of income apart from periodic farming which is full dependent on teh rains. We had a plan with my husband to use the cash we would recieve in addition to what we had saved to buy a Public service vehicle(PSV) for him to use for business purposes. My husband is a member of a savings group know as the Imarika savings group where we intended to get the loan but we were informed that we could only get a loan of such an amount with at least $4000 in savings which we could not afford. We changed our mind and thought that we should opt for a motorcycle business. We have put $500 from our first transfer and our entire second transfer in savings to facilitate this. We are looking for a trusted person that we could employ to run the motorcycle business as my husband continues doing the driver work. We spent $11 to reduce our childrens school fee balance and $37 on food."

"GD thought about us because we were so hungry by giving us money instead of giving us food. If it has given us food that would not be a good idea because by giving us money we even bought other things that will help us in other days. Everything that GD has done is so good"

"In the upcoming year or before its conclusion, my intention is to obtain a parcel of land, establish a boundary around it, and commence raising goats. By doing so, I aim to enhance the welfare of my family by generating an additional source of income, particularly during dry seasons when farming may not be as prosperous."

"I fervently pray for the protection of my farm from pests, and if they do happen to appear, I hope their detrimental effects on my crops are minimal. At present, I am focused on cultivating maize and vegetables, with the primary goal of providing enough food for my family so that we won't starve. When things turn out well, I will plan on planting more maize so that I can sell them to get enough money. Thanks to GiveDirectly for it all."

"I am a 7th grade dropped out. I dropped from school since 2020 due to lack of support. My plan is to still go back to school and completed my high school education and advance myself at the university level. Therefore, to accomplish my goal, I have decided to get involve in cocoa production. In 2021, I planted two acres of cocoa and still want to increase my farm by additional one acre by 2024. However, this farm will support me financially in achieving my goal few years from now. I want to see myself back to school in 2025 and my source of income will be my farm."
