Amina
received a $24 eighteenth payment.
"I am the happiest woman alive because my dream of building a house for my family was able to start when I was receiving transfers, our house is an old worn off structure. The rains have been our biggest enemy as it made the state of the house worse by washing off more of the mud wall. I have been working on getting a two room house which will require about 20 sheets of iron. I have so far done 9 sheets and the starting structure has gone up already. My goal is to finish this project this year using the transfers so I am left with more from my transfers to invest in the education of my children getting all my 6 school aged children in school."

"Reliable source of income is the current challenge I am facing in life. I am a widow who depends on subsistence farming though farming is not reliable in our area. Most of the time I do casual jobs earning little income which caters for food. The income is low such that I cannot buy beddings I do sleep on the floor. This affects my healthy."

"Housing is the challenge I am facing in life. I live in a house that has leaking roof. The roof was destroyed by falling coconut tree. During rain season then the family spends sleepless nights. I lack the capacity to change the roof due to lack of funds."

Jonathan
received a $306 second payment.
"I eagerly awaited the arrival of the GiveDirectly cash, as I trusted the officers from GiveDirectly when they educated us about receiving unconditional cash. Upon receiving it, my priority was to construct a new room made of iron sheets. The previous one, made of grass and mud, would let in rain, making it feel like I was living outside. I allocated $280 for this project.Next, I purchased two plastic chairs for $10, as the ones I had previously broken, leaving us with nothing to sit on. I also spent $50 on foodstuff, as we relied on my wife's casual labor work, primarily charcoal burning, to support our family of five. Additionally, I used to sell my sheep to supplement our income for buying food. With $100, I bought two sheep, as they multiply faster than goats. Goats often died before multiplying, which was discouraging. Finally, I invested the remaining $40 in agriculture by preparing my farm for planting one hectare of maize. I knew that a successful harvest would provide plenty of food for my family, relieving my wife of the burden of buying food and eliminating the need to sell our sheep for sustenance. My family and I are grateful for the cash assistance, and I am filled with happiness knowing that we can improve our living conditions and secure our future."

"My mind is focused on one thing: repairing our house. The rains are almost starting, and that worries me a lot. With the cash transfers I'm receiving from GiveDirectly, my sole aim is to ensure that our house repairs are completed. It's been a constant source of concern for me and my family, but with this support, I'm hopeful that we'll finally be able to make our home safe and secure again."

"With the cash transfers I'm receiving, my aim is to finish building my house, a dream that has felt out of reach for so long. Once this is done, I plan to expand my herd of livestock. This will not only boost my income but also ensure I have the means to support my own needs and those of my family. All thanks to Givedirectly for creating a better future for myself and those I care about."

"My plan for the coming year is to invest in livestock using the cash transfers I receive. I believe that by purchasing livestock, I can create a sustainable source of income for my family. Once these animals reproduce, I intend to sell them, generating additional funds that will allow me to comfortably provide for my children's basic needs. I believe that by ensuring my children have access to a good education, their future will be secure, and they will also be able to support us in return. I'm grateful for the support and opportunities that Givedirectly transfers have provided us."

Christine
received a $306 third payment.
"The third transfer brought immense relief to our family, arriving just in time for the new school year. With three children in secondary school and limited income from casual labor, and my spouse's teaching salary of $80 monthly, paying school fees was a daunting challenge. Utilizing $30 from the transfer, I was able to ensure that three of our children could start school without any delays or worries. Without this assistance, I am uncertain how we would have managed, as seeking help through village fundraising is not only embarrassing but often insufficient. From my experience, the most you could raise through this fundraiser is $20. Witnessing our children heading off to school on opening day filled me with gratitude and pride. Additionally, I allocated $35 of the transfer to purchase five plastic chairs. Previously, we struggled with limited seating, but now we have ample chairs for our family gatherings and visitors. I spent the remaining funds on purchasing food to sustain us. Despite facing challenges with our leased land and limited maize production, we're grateful for the support that ensures our family's basic needs are met."

Kadzo
received a $24 eighteenth payment.
"The idea of starting my own business started the moment I began receiving my transfers. I am currently not employed, as I devote my time to taking care of my children at home. The more I save, the more inspired I become to start my own vegetable shop. I believe that through proper saving, I will certainly start my business. This venture would make it easier for us to afford my children's school fees."
