Julius
received a $450 second payment.
"I am a mason and the bread winner of the family. My wife is a housewife and she can not do much since she has no skills which can help her secure a job. Since it has not been easy for me taking all the family responsibility with the little salary that I earn from daily hustles, I have always thought of buying my wife a Friesian cow so that she can take care of it, sell milk and earn a living. Although this has been my desire for the longest time, I have not been able to achieve it and being enrolled in the program was a dream come true. With my second transfer, I spend $400 to buy a mature cow and spend the balance to buy food for my family. I a happy happy that the income that we will earn from selling milk in the near future will supplement my small income and we will be able to handle family bills comfortably."

Lilian
received a $435 second payment.
"During drought seasons, I usually walk for kilometres in search of water only to come home with a 20 litres jerrican. Its usually not easy during these seasons as we have to go for some days without taking shower to save water for cooking and drinking. My biggest desire has been to buy a water tank so that I can harvest water during rainy seasons but this has not been possible as I am just a house wife and we all depend on my husband who engages in business of buying and selling livestock to earn living. When I received my second transfer, I spend $200 to buy 3000 litres water tank and $5 for installation. I spend the balance to pay a debt that I had of $5 and the balance to buy food. I'm grateful that neither my children and I will no longer have to walk for long distance during dry season to look for water."

Mercy
received a $435 second payment.
"Living in a two rooms muddy house with my six children has not been easy and I have desired to give them better living conditions but since my husband and I are peasant farmers, we couldn't meet our desires. Being enrolled in the program was a dream come true as we could foresee ourselves having our dream home and living happily ever after with our children. With our first transfer, we were able to raise a two bedroom structure which wed spend $300 of our second transfer to put up a roof. We were also able to settle school fees balance of $150 which we were not able to pay before and now our children have been allowed to settle in school without being send home. I spend the balance buy food for my family and I am so thankful to GiveDirectly for the support."

"What GiveDirectly does well is helping us financially to raise our standards of living and achieve our goals. I wouldn't have managed to build a permanent house for my family on my own and so as to many others in the community. May you never get tired of uplifting the poor."

Safari
enrolled.
"Financial constraints remain at the top of my list of problems. Being jobless at the moment means failing to meet most of my family's basic needs, a situation that has robbed away my joy as a father. Despite struggling to support my children in school, I have on the other hand failed to provide better housing for ourselves. This means our security and health are at stake because my house is collapsing from behind and it's just braving the strong wind. What a life to worry about!"

"Give Directly was able to reach out to the most vulnerable people in the most remote areas by having field officers visit each household and I personally appreciate this a lot because if phone calls was the only means used to reach out to people, then a lot us could have been left out."
