Bendera
received a $28 ninth payment.
"The transfers have ensured that I do not lack food in my household since I was enrolled. I have been depending on subsistence farming which has not been doing well due to the drought that has severely affected us. The transfers are my only hope since I do not have anyone to provide for me. Despite the financial difficulties, I have been saving Ksh.1000 every month in our local merry-go-round and my plan is to buy goats. I currently have two goats which I acquired through the transfers. My goal is to buy more goats once my turn to receive the money comes, since these are the only assets that I can own, in my lowly financial status."

Baraka
received a $28 eighth payment.
"I recently opened a business where I sell plastic equipment in Malindi. The business has been doing great; I get $7 a day in profit from it. I send $2 a day to my wife, who is in Kilifi, to buy food for the family. My child is young, and hopefully, by the time we enroll her in school, I will be able to do so without strain. We stay on my father's land, and my long-term goal is to save at least $2 a day for two years and buy land, for which I am currently in talks with the owner."

Mwanajuma
received a $28 eighth payment.
"In the upcoming years, I want to open a retail store to raise our family's revenue. My spouse, who provides the majority of our family's income, rides a motorcycle for a living. At the end of the day, the commission he receives from it is insufficient to support our needs and the requirements of our two children. I intend to invest the transfers I will be getting in the upcoming months in goat rearing in order to earn the necessary funds to establish the business. I've already purchased ten of them with the prior transfers, and I still intend to buy fifteen more. They reproduce every year, and I anticipate having enough by the following year so that when I sell them, I will have enough money to start the business. He will not have to suffer on his own once the business is up and going since we will work together to support our family."

Dama
received a $28 ninth payment.
"In the next year, I would like to have grown my herd of three goats to 15. This will provide me enough wealth to sell and generate school fees for my two grandchildren who are currently in grades seven and six. Their parents, who operate a small food point in the village, struggle to raise sufficient school fees for the children. It would relieve me to have the capacity to support them to that level. Besides, education is the best solution the children will have to end the hardships in the household."

Kadzo
received a $28 ninth payment.
"My goal this year is to construct a decent three-roomed, mud-walled, irony-roofed house for my family of 6 children. Since our shelter collapsed last year, it forced us to seek shelter from our neighbor's house something that has deprived us of our privacy. I have been purchasing the required building materials since I started receiving the transfer. At the moment, I have 20 iron sheets and hoping to complete the construction by the end of the year."

Samson
received a $28 ninth payment.
"I have always dreamt about owning livestock but financial constraints have hindered my capacity to acquire one. As a motorcyclist operating in the village, the little I make can barely cover anything beyond food. Am grateful for the cash transfer as they present an ideal opportunity to buy and expand my herd over the next few years. Having recently completed a house construction exercise using previous transfers, I aim to channel each of the upcoming transfers toward buying goats. I would be content if I own at least 12 goats by the end of the year."

Kipkoech
received a $432 second payment.
"As a teacher with no formal reliable job, I have been struggling to provide for my family of three( wife and two children) with my salary of $40. This has seen me struggle to complete building a two bedroom house that I started two years ago. With the second transfer, I spend $100 towards completion of my house, $100 to buy seats and a table, $110 and the balance to buy food for my family. I am grateful that the transfers helped me achieve some of my goals and I am looking forward concentrate on the few remaining ones."

Langat
received a $432 second payment.
"Early this year, I got married to the love of my life and due to financial constrains, I was not able to pay dowry as required by the customary law. Being enrolled in the program was the best thing to ever happen to me because this was a perfect time when I needed the finances the most I spend $250 to buy a cow that that I presented as dowry with the transfer balance. Although I was not able to clear the dowry, I am looking forward to clear it by the end of next year."

Zione
enrolled.
"Ever since my husband, Rajabu James left me back in 2013 it hasn't been easy for me to support my family. As a single mother taking care of these 3 children of mine is an everyday struggle. I have to feed them, pay for their education as well as cloth them. All these are costly and from my tomato selling business I don't realize much to carter for all that. For instance, at present I only have 2 bags of maize for food and I am worried of how and where I am to get food aftet this is done. On top of that I need to pay $22 school fees for my daughter, Lucy Evance who is in form one at Njelenje. From my monthly income of $3 I am struggling to handle all these."

"With my old age and deteriorating health I am unable to work like I used to back in the days. This has brought about scarcity of some basic needs in my life, specifically food. Currently, the only flour I have for nsima I have left is that bucket you've seen in my house and I will have to rely on remittance when that is depleted."
