"GiveDirectly did well in coming to our village and enrol us and sending the cash as they had promised during the community sensitization meeting. In addition, they enrolled everyone in my community without discriminating against people based on clan or religious group. I just wish they could extend the assistance to other areas to assist households living in poverty."

"Owning a better shelter has been my longing for a very long time. The arrival of GiveDirectly and the launching of the cash program in our area was big milestone in achieving my dream. I spent the recent transfer to complete the construction of a two-roomed, mud-walled house for my family which I had begun with the first transfer. Previously, I had to seek shelter from my mother-in-law with the children after our house collapsed. This was against our traditions but I did not have any other options due to the poverty in the family. Nowadays, I am happy to own a nice house like others in the village something that has restored the joy of my life. Additionally, I used $150 to pay school fees for our children who are in secondary school. At the moment, they can attend classes without their education being interfered with because of school fee arrears. Currently, two of my children already completed their secondary school last term."

Zeddy
received a $438 second payment.
"In their final year of secondary school, my two daughters owed the school $300 in unpaid tuition, which I was able to pay off with a portion of the second transfer. Three of my primary school-aged children were also sent home because we were unable to pay $15 on time. When I got the second payment, I also paid the arrears. We were grateful for the help and the money, which saved our lives. In addition, I invested $150 on a calf that I will raise in the future. My family was able to live comfortably for a while on the $80 that I had left, which was primarily spent on food items like rice, maize, sugar, and beans. I am a farmer with a focus on vegetables and maize, but there are times when it struggles, making it difficult for me to support my family. Sustaining them was made simple through the transfers, and we are grateful for that."

"The best choice GiveDirectly ever made was to donate money to those in need. As they have no connections to any governmental entities, the entire process was, to put it nicely, transparent and fair. They helped most people escape poverty, especially in our neighborhood, which previously had many grass-thatched homes and is now covered in iron sheets. Apart from that, the group is responsible for most parents being able to send their kids to school. Nothing they are doing is wrong, therefore we encourage them to keep up the good work."

"I appreciate the help because, with the first transfer, I was able to start a farm and alleviate my family's food insecurity, and with the second transfer, I was able to purchase a dairy cow that is already bringing in extra money from milk sales. I want to make sure that my five kids' school expenses are paid on time in the upcoming years. I sell the pots I create and make $30 each week in addition to $2.5 every day from milk. These resources will allow me to pay for the school fees on time and even save some for later usage if they are properly budgeted for."

"GiveDirecty is the best organization since they do not have any connections to politicians and don't lend us money. People can freely spend their money without expecting anything in return, which allowed the beneficiaries to be welcoming and helped them improve their life because they were aware that nothing was expected of them. On the other hand, they must thoroughly investigate and comprehend the families, particularly those where there are intoxicated members, and continuously monitor them to prevent money from being wasted or spent on alcohol."

"After using the most recent transfer to successfully buy a cow that I hope will increase our household's income in the future, I now want to address the food insecurity we are currently experiencing. We have been farming maize and beans on a little farm, less than an eighth acre, but due to its small size, we were unable to produce enough food to feed my family for a year. As a result, I rented a half-acre farmland this year with the intention of increasing both the quality and output of agricultural products. Since the weather has consistently been good, I am confident that the crops will prosper and produce enough food to feed our household. I won't just plant maize and beans, I will also plant sorghum, vegetables, and other crops. This will save us the cost of purchasing food and hence the money will be spent on other household needs."

Sidi
received a $438 second payment.
"In this year and beyond, I wish to expand my kiosk business so that I would be making enough income that will help me to feed the family as well as cater for other basic needs. Furthermore, my grandchildren are still learning and I wanted to continue supporting their education through the secondary to college level. Providing better education will assure them of a bright future."

"-I am a parent of three boys who are still in Primary school, they are in classes two, four and five. Before the GiveDirectly transfers, I never had any stable source of income and providing for my family had been the most difficult task I have ever faced. I used the whole transfer of kshs 53,000 to purchase a power saw for my business. Before I bought the machine I used to hire it from someone else and this was quite expensive as I remained with very little money for my family's basic needs like food, clothing and education."

"Before the transfer, I never had a modern house, I owned a small grass-thatched house which was leaking during the rainy season. I thank Give Directly for the transfers as I managed to build a two-bedroom modern house for kshs 30,000 Initially, I never had peace of mind as it was so tiresome moving some of my valuable items during the rainy season, my young boys too never had adequate space to spend their nights and this was so stressful as they could sleep in a neighbour's house. My peace of mind is finally restored since I built a house.
I am a University student, a third-year student studying English Literature. I used the remaining part of the transfers of kshs 23,000 to pay for my tuition fees"
