Toiyoi
received a $336 second payment.
"Due to my old age, I am no longer able to work on the farm as energetically as I used to, and thus, I rely on goat rearing and my children to earn a livelihood. Presently, I live with my grandchild since all my children are grown. After receiving my transfer, my top priority was to fence my land to protect my crops from animals. Additionally, I purchased enough foodstuffs for myself, but I cannot estimate the exact amount spent. Nevertheless, I trust my son, who assisted me throughout the process. For many years, I was unable to meet these needs, and therefore, I am extremely grateful for the support that significantly improved my living standards."

"The impact of GiveDirectly's work in our village leaves me at a loss for words. We have undergone an incredible transformation, from a state of deprivation to a place where we have regular meals without fail. With the unconditional cash transfer, I have been able to achieve a lot. The staff who came to enroll us were very helpful and made us feel at ease while answering our questions, which improved our comprehension. I appreciate their generosity and wish that other villages could also benefit from GiveDirectly's kindness."

Alex
received a $135 initial payment.
"Despite living in a small house that only accommodates one person, I have always aspired to construct a spacious house where I can comfortably host my visitors. Using the first transfer, I bought 12 iron sheets for $108, which I plan to use to build a larger house. In addition to the iron sheets, I aim to purchase more building materials with the second transfer, hire a labor force, and complete the construction process as soon as possible. Furthermore, I bought an additional plastic seat for $6, foodstuff worth $40 that I am still using, and saved the remaining amount for emergencies and refilling any depleted household items. I appreciate the support I have received and eagerly anticipate the possibilities that the second transfer will bring."

"I appreciate how Give Directly allows everyone who qualifies for the transfers to be responsible for how they use the funds, and I would like to encourage the organization to be more intentional about training the community on better and more sustainable business practices that they can implement, so that the impact of this cash can be seen even years later."

"When I finish building our new house, I intend to establish a new business selling maize and other farm inputs to generate income for my family.
As a maize farmer, I just get enough produce to feed my family so I need another source of cash to facilitate other needs."

Jacob
received a $26 second payment.
"As I approach the end of my primary education, I am determined to perform well in my final exam and continue to secondary school. To prepare myself financially, I have decided to save $10 every month until the end of the year. This will provide me with enough funds to purchase the necessary items required for my admission to Form 1, thus reducing the financial burden on my mother. By taking this initiative, I hope to ease the stress that comes with financing my education and ensure that I am fully prepared for the next phase of my academic journey. I am committed to working hard in school and achieving my goals, and having the financial means to do so will be a significant step towards realizing my dreams."

Stephen
enrolled.
"It has been 2 years now since my wife passed away. This has been a very tough period for me because it exposed me to depression. Since it was hard to operate my work away from home, it forced me to come back as I continue seeking medical attention. Being sick yet I have 2 children to take care of, added a burden on me. Currently, my electrical skills are not fully utilized since I am only engaged in small contracts in our nearby town including within the village. The income from my work is usually not enough to sustain our needs like school fees and food. Therefore, the lack of a stable source of income stands out as the main challenge."

Kadzo
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"In the coming months and beyond, my priority is to invest my monthly transfer towards improving my health condition. My deteriorating health has made it difficult for me to engage in farming activities and support myself financially. Therefore, I plan to allocate a significant portion of the money towards medical expenses and seeking better treatment. Once my health improves, I will be able to resume my farming activities and become self-reliant again. Additionally, I would like to use some of the funds to build a new house. My current dwelling is in poor condition and poses a risk to my safety and that of my belongings. A new house would provide me with a sense of security and improve my quality of life."
