"It is my wish to be a truck driver one day in life going for long distance. For me to be employed as one, I need to have at least a six months experience in driving such big vehicles. Currently, I am planning to approach one of my neighbors who is a truck driver to help me in acquiring such skills. I will be accompanying him while he goes on with his work so that I can be assisting him to drive when he is tired. Over time, I will have gained some experience that will sell me out at the job market."

"We have a savings group that we started in January this year where one saves any amount she has weekly since we meet every Saturday. I do not have a stable source of income but with the current work that I do of burning and selling charcoal, I have been saving part of my income in this group. I am sometimes lucky to save KES 200 in a week and sometimes less depending with what I managed to make at the course of the week. I am planning to later use my savings to expand our house by extending a room that will serve as our bedroom. With this, my young children whom we currently sleep together will sleep in the sitting room so that we can have our privacy as parents."

"Currently, I am planning to take a driving course as it will enable me to acquire some new skills. Despite this, I will be able to attend classes and still look for some work to do when I am free. Having a valid drivers license is important as one can easily get a job even if it is for a few hours. At the moment, I do not have money that I will use in facilitating this since I recently used the savings that I had to purchase some goats as an investment. I work at a grocery store and I am planning to start saving part of my daily earnings for this purpose while I use a fraction of what will remain to cater for my daily needs."

"One thing I've always hoped for is for my two children to excel in school and achieve their academic goals. They are both in high school, and it has not been easy to raise their fees. I'm glad I have some money to rely on every month, and I budget for them to keep their studies going. To accomplish this, I want to make certain that I always pay their fees on time. This will allow them to remain in school. Even after they finish their studies, I hope to send them to college while I continue to receive monthly support."

"I would say my disability is the challenge I face since I cannot do what other people do but I would not be telling the truth. The main challenge that I'm facing currently, is the lack of food. Since I cannot farm I only depend on my menial work repairing plastic containers for my neighbor. However, recently work has been really low which has led to a great lack of money and also food. I also don't have water near my house and I'm forced to walk for about 5 kilometers to the nearest water point which poses a great challenge considering my disability."

"I'm faced with challenge of sickness. Since my diagnosis about 15 years ago I have been through so much in my life. However the most pressing challenge I'm facing at the moment is the lack of food. With the lack of food I sometimes fear that my health will be affected which worries me a lot."

"Due to my old age I'm unable to do most of the work such as going to the farm to plant and grow crops. This has reduced me to become dependent on my children who do farming and provide for me food. However, since there has been a prolonged drought that has lasted about 3 months our farms have become less productive. This has made my life very difficult since I sometimes have to go hungry without food. It is difficult since my children have to feed their families too and provide for me while the food they have may not be enough for all of us."

"Food insecurity is so biting, this is coming in the wake of the increased cost of living. There was a prolonged drought as a result of three failed rainy seasons and so the drought resistant crops that we used to depend on were wiped away by the scorching sun. Life has really been hard such that putting food on the table has been an uphill task, we survive on porridge just to sustain ourselves. The cost of 1 Kg of maize is going for $1.20 up from $0.6, which is unaffordable, other times we are forced to go to bed on an empty stomach. We have lived a life of misery and destitution. Even now I have no idea where the next meal will come from since I do not have a penny to buy the maize flour."

"I used to do tomato farming under irrigation and it was a source of livelihood for me but I stopped because of inadequate capital. It requires huge financing since the cost of pesticides and fertilizers has shot up. I would have loved to go back to farming but it has not been easy, more than before this was the most ideal time to do farming since we recently received long rains. I have tried all means from borrowing to trying to get a loan but to avail. It breaks my heart that the rainy season is ending without me leveraging on it."

"I am old and depend on making robes for sale. I can make very few which I sell for $0.50. This means I cannot buy enough maize flour to cook enough food for myself. I can only have one meal, that is supper because I cannot afford it. The cost of maize flour is very high which has made my life very difficult. The fact that I cannot have enough meals a day makes me sad."
