Zawadi
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"My greatest sense of accomplishment would be to support the education of all my five children until they reach the university level. I firmly believe that education is the key to lifting our family out of struggles and alleviating the burden on their father, who works tirelessly to provide for us. I know that my husband's income from selling livestock alone would not be enough to finance our children's studies. However, with the assistance of the monthly cash transfers, I envision a future where my children can pursue their education successfully. It is through education that they will have greater opportunities and help improve our family's overall well-being."

Dama
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"There is nothing that would bring me greater joy than seeing my three children complete their primary and high school education. It would break my heart if they were deprived of learning opportunities due to a lack of finances to pay for their tuition fees. I firmly believe that education is the key to driving our family out of poverty, and I am willing to invest every penny I receive in supporting their education. As a widow who relies on charcoal making for income, I am not confident that this practice alone will be enough to see them through their educational journey. Therefore, with the assistance of the cash transfers, my hope is not only to finance their studies but also to establish a more stable source of income for our family's future."

Jumwa
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I am confident that the ongoing planting season will yield a bountiful harvest, providing enough food for my family in the upcoming months, possibly until the end of the year. This prospect gives me the opportunity to utilize the cash transfers to invest in livestock, specifically goats. With the previous cash transfers, I was able to acquire seven goats, and my goal is to continue expanding my herd. In the future, I plan to sell these animals to contribute to my family's needs, such as school fees for my children. Considering the current economic conditions, I anticipate that each of my five children will require at least $50 per academic term, and I aim to be financially prepared for these expenses."

Naomi
received a $320 third payment.
"I used the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a goat for $30. I made this purchase because I usually make a profit when I sell it during the seasonal time. With the increased profit, I am able to save money for the future needs of my children. Additionally, I used the remaining amount to purchase food for my children."

Kipruto
received a $320 third payment.
"I utilized $100 of the transfer to expand my goat rearing investment, which I had initiated when I received the transfers by adding two goats. I'm pleased to share that I now have a total of eight goats as a result. I believe the goats will multiply over time and eventually become a good source of income for my family of five.
Additionally, I used $180 to till my land and cultivate maize for domestic consumption. I as well spent $50 on purchasing iron sheets with the intention of constructing an additional room for our house since our current living space has become too small for our family, considering that our three children are growing very fast. I used the remaining funds to buy food for my family, owing to the fact that the cost of food has been rising in our economy and the income I earn from occasional casual work is insufficient to cover all our expenses."

received a $320 third payment.
"In my opinion, GD has done well sending us the transfers directly to our Mpesa accounts. This method ensures that the transfers reach the intended recipients without any intermediaries or local leaders involved reducing the risk of misallocation or delays in receiving the funds.
I have not seen anything that the organization should improve."

Zawadi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal is to establish a thriving livestock-rearing project. With the transfers I've received, I've already taken the initial steps by purchasing three chickens and one goat. One chick goes for $5 and to progress further, my plan is to begin the project next month and allocate a portion of my transfers to acquire at least two additional chickens each month. This expansion will help me work towards my goal of building a thriving and sustainable livestock enterprise."

Samuel
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal is to join a driving school. Despite completing my primary education, I faced financial constraints that prevented me from pursuing further studies. However, I am determined to overcome this obstacle by diligently saving a portion of my income. By August of this year, I aim to have accumulated enough funds to enroll in the driving school which requires approximately $180 for the course fees and I am confident that I will achieve this goal and acquire the necessary skills to enhance my future prospects."

"Food insecurity is what is affecting us the most. We had depressed rainfall in the past and it was not possible to produce food crops on our farms. Our area is semi-arid and the adverse effects of climate change have had a toll effect on us such that putting food on the table is not easy. The recent rise in the cost of living has made things worse as the cost has doubled making it unaffordable. It seems to get hard every day and it breaks our hearts and diminishes our hopes of living a better life."

"We are a young family of 3 and struggling to make ends meet especially in terms of food insecurity. My husband used to work with Kenya Wildlife Service as a scout supporting the rangers albeit on a contractual basis. The contract elapsed in February and it made our lives a bit difficult because we could no longer get the constant source of income. He tried a hand in the motorcycle business but it has not been sustainable since we took it on a loan and we have been struggling to pay it back. It has strained us a lot since the little we get goes towards loan repayment and other competing needs."
