"GiveDirectly has been an immense help, for which I am deeply grateful. My household, much like others, faced significant deficiencies, but we are now content with the establishment of a steady income source. The concept of direct cash support was previously unheard of, and the ability to spend the funds according to our discretion was truly remarkable, granting us the freedom of limitless choices. This stands in contrast to other organizations that impose directives or provide predetermined material goods. Given its unbiased approach, I sincerely hope GiveDirectly continues its commendable efforts in other villages as well."

"Throughout the period of utilizing the support we received from GiveDirectly, I had been collaborating closely with my supportive husband to formulate and carry out our plans. I am pleased that upon receipt of the final transfer, he was able to utilize $50 to repair his motorcycle, which has previously served as our primary source of income, catering to school fees for our two children and other household expenditures. Additionally, we spent $36 to purchase essential food items like maize, beans, and sugar for our family of four. Recognizing the need for furnishings in our new house, we used $44 to acquire two tables and three plastic chairs, enhancing the interior look of our home. Having leased a parcel of land some months ago, planting had been hindered due to insufficient funds to purchase the required seeds or seedlings for the entire acre. With the remaining funds, I am content that I can now acquire all the necessary inputs for farming. This step will hopefully enable me to plant the entire plot, relieving me of the casual labor I engaged in when land was not available for cultivation. Leasing this land marks a significant stride toward achieving self-sustained food production for our family of four."

"In my view, GiveDirectly has achieved an exceptional feat by enabling individuals to receive and utilize their money unconditionally. This accomplishment is evident through the installation of modern water-collection tanks in various households, the emergence of new houses within the village, the expansion of livestock holdings in anticipation of the year-end auction, the reduction of local fundraising efforts as compared to the past, and the community's ability to provide substantial support whenever necessary. Additionally, the great peace experienced can be attributed to the thorough education provided during the initial meetings, which prevented conflicts arising from the households' spending decisions. The advancement of women's empowerment is also apparent through the diversified farming activities and the visible progress of ongoing projects within the village. While I greatly commend these achievements, I wish that GiveDirectly would encourage community leaders to impart education about sustainable ventures. Despite the unconditional nature of the transfers, a gentle push towards well-considered investments could yield long-term benefits."

"Before the year comes to a close, I intend to allocate the remaining $200 as previously planned and initiate our transport venture. This project fills me with excitement, as it promises a steady stream of income, simplifying our daily living expenses. Additionally, the motorbike will serve as a means for our children to commute to school, sparing them from long walks and ensuring they arrive on time and return home early. This is especially significant to us as the safety and well-being of our family is our utmost priority."

"I would want to build my family a more spacious home and secure a steady income for my children's school fees.
I'm to ventured into goat farming. This is because of their availability and consistent demand that wound ensure successful resale. I'm planning to purchase 5 to 9 goats each between $35 to $40. With this I will be able to achieve my financial goals.
To boost this income I will also keep more poultry. I will have fulfilled my dream of securing education for my children and give them a better life."

"Our biggest challenge as a household is the lack of a toilet. We depend on our parent's toilet. This means we have to always ask for their permission and is a bit far. Having a good toilet is good for our health. It prevents diseases. Maintenance for the toilet is hard because we share it. There's also no privacy."

"Education is very important in our lives. We currently have four children who need education support. Two in primary and the others in secondary. Their combined education fees per year are up to $800 without transport and other school expenses. This amount is hard to raise, which has made us sell our livestock and farm produce to support their education. Next year, when the other two join secondary, it will become even more difficult.
Our children's education support has been hard on our family's income. It makes us worried about their futures."
