received a $23 fourteenth payment.
"Looking ahead, my goal is to build a completely new house. The current house dates back ten years, and as it has mud walls, it is susceptible to destruction from heavy rains. Currently, I had to repair one of the walls that collapsed due to the ongoing rains. I plan to construct a new house with mud walls but change the structure to make it less vulnerable to rain damage. To achieve this, I plan to save some of the cash transfers until I accumulate enough funds to buy building materials like iron sheets and building poles first."

"What truly stood out for me in my experience with GD is the sense of freedom it provides in the enrollment process. The fact that we were given the choice to decide whether to enrol or not speaks volumes about the program's respect for individuals. Moreover, equally appealing is the flexibility to withdraw from the program at any time, a straightforward process made possible by a simple call to the customer care number. This level of control and convenience deserves a big thumbs up, as it empowers individuals to make decisions that align with their needs and preferences, contributing to a positive and user-friendly experience."

Patrick
received a $295 third payment.
"I began building my two-bedroom iron sheet house using the second transfer, but unfortunately, the project was left incomplete. Determined to see it through, I used $280 to complete it, which involved adding 15 iron sheets, acquiring a metallic door, windows, cement, sand, and covering labor expenses. The completed house is more spacious than my previous single-room dwelling, providing a comfortable space for my future family since I am planning to marry in two years time. The relief is immense, especially considering that the new house doesn't suffer from leaks that used to disrupt my peace whenever it rained.
In a bid to eradicate the discomfort and embrassment of open defecation, I directed $18 towards the construction of a pit latrine, a project that is progressing and will soon be finalized. Additionally, I invested $60 in poultry farming, purchasing twelve chicks to supplement my income derived from the posho mill where I currently work. The prospect of generating revenue through egg sales adds a hopeful note to my financial endeavors.
I have set aside the remaining funds with the intention of leasing a half-acre of land adjacent to the river for irrigation. Inspired by my neighbor's successful experience, I intend to cultivate tomatoes for commercial purposes in order to earn an extra income."

Robert
received a $295 second payment.
"Upon receiving the second transfer, my immediate plan was to fence my four-acre piece of land. I purchased 10 chain links and 1 barbed wire, totaling $322, to secure the area. While fencing, I incurred a labor cost of $32, as an extra pair of hands was needed for digging holes and tightening wires to ensure the fence's sturdiness. This fencing serves the purpose of keeping stray livestock at bay, preventing them from clearing vegetation on the farm. With the fence in place, I aim to cultivate the land and prepare for goat farming. Although I initially intended to use the remaining funds to buy goats, the current high prices, driven by festivities and an anticipated goat auction in the nearby shopping center, led me to reconsider. I have opted to save the remaining amount, planning to make the purchase when prices are expected to drop towards the end of December. This strategic decision allows for a more efficient allocation of resources for the future development of my farming venture."

Maorine
received a $295 second payment.
"Looking ahead to the coming year and beyond, my strategic focus is on expanding my investment in livestock. The rationale behind this decision stems from the financial strain caused by consistently purchasing packed milk from nearby shops. To alleviate this burden, I plan to invest in a cow, foreseeing it as a sustainable source for future milk production. Beyond personal consumption, the surplus milk could potentially be sold, providing a dual benefit of financial returns. Additionally, the prospect of breeding and selling the offspring presents an opportunity to generate income to cover various expenses, including school fees for my children and other essential bills. This investment in livestock not only addresses immediate financial challenges but also lays the foundation for a more self-sufficient and economically viable future."

"Education is key to success nowadays. I have 3 grandchildren to support. It's been very difficult raising their school fees, it had drained my resources. We have sold livestock and has even affected our family income. My granddaughter is currently doing her final exams for secondary education. I have fees areas and don't know how she will get her certificate without us clearing school feels. This has been my biggest worry."

"My biggest challenge is that I have been sick for the last 2 months. This means providing for my family is a challenge. I cannot do farming due my worsening health condition. Plan to go back to hospital for treatment, and hopefully to get well soon.
My neighbors have been really helpful in raising funds for my medication. I don't have enough money for my hospital bills. They also have been giving us food support."

"One thing that GiveDirectly has done perfectly well is giving me unconditional cash which has empowered me to realize my potential that seemed impossible to achieve within a short period. The cash has impacted my life positively and I can happily say that I have a good semi-permanent house that I did not have before since I was languishing in poverty also I can now afford to put food on my table. In my opinion, I would appreciate it more if GiveDirectly could be cheap in promoting fruit growing in our area by buying us the seedlings and distributing them in all the households within the village, through this we will achieve economic sustainability."

"Once I get more money I will purchase livestock, specifically goats and chickens. I prefer goats to cows because they are easy to maintain and, I can be able to look after them and also they can survive during dry seasons and they breed faster here. poultry rearing is also profitable since it needs less cost but yields maximum profit when they multiply. Ideally, I chose to perfect this because they have ready markets compared to other livestock keeping, and am sure this will help us in the future by reducing the cost of buying milk daily."
