"The ability to meet my financial obligations and provide for my family's needs has made the biggest difference in my daily life since I began receiving payments from GiveDirectly. I was able to do a lot with the extra money, including pay off my sons' school fees. This enabled my three sons to receive their completion certificates and ready to move on to the next level of their education. Prior to GiveDirectly's support, it was a constant struggle to meet our basic needs, and education was a luxury that we could barely afford. However, the support has provided our family with stability and peace of mind, and I am now able to plan for our future with greater certainty."

"My children had been coming back and forth from school, hoping to get some money to cover their tuition and give them enough time to study before I received the first transfer. Receiving the first transfer was a huge relief, especially for the two students who attend a day secondary school. The following morning, I made a direct deposit of $100 to the school account to clear the entire term before withdrawing the remaining amount from the nearby shopping center. My reliance on casual labor was no longer paying, and we could sometimes go without a meal until the first transfer arrived. With $40, I was able to purchase enough food for my family of six. Furthermore, with this money, I was able to upgrade my home's lighting system from a single, small, dim light source to a $50 solar panel and a wet battery powering three brighter bulbs in three different rooms: the kitchen, the main house, and the children's room. Every evening, they can now enjoy the well-lit space where they can complete their assignments. I used the remaining money to purchase a heifer, which I expect to calve in the coming months. I had been buying milk from the neighbors and needed a cow that would provide enough milk for my family as well as surplus for sale."

"When I received a message from GiveDirectly confirming the receipt of the first transfer, I was overjoyed. I was alone at home at the time of receipt and had to read the message on my own. It was not difficult to confirm that it was from GiveDirectly because I could tell by the amount of money I had received. I had been expecting the same news since enrollment, and as soon as I got it, I dashed to meet my husband, who was out in the field tending to the cattle. When he heard the news, he was extremely happy, and we began making plans to collect and spend the money within a week."

"I have one major challenge that I'm faced with at the moment and this is the lack of money. I lack enough money to provide for my family's basic needs such as food and also for my 5 children's school fees. I depend fully on casual work which I get occasionally. In addition to this, casual work pays very low since I can only manage to earn 20 dollars each day I get to work. I feel my life is very difficult without enough money."

"Most of the time, I am preoccupied with my children's educational advancement. Before my enrollment in the program, they could be sent home because I could not afford to pay their school fees in time. Therefore, I hope to accomplish the goal of ensuring that they have ample time in school to focus on their study. It is a great investment that will be of great benefit to them. I will achieve this by investing more of my transfers in paying tuition fees for my children. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for its financial support."

"Based on the high value placed on goats in our area, when the year began I developed a goal of focusing on buying goats as a primary investment for my family. I, therefore, hope to buy an additional six goats by the end of the year. I consider buying livestock since it is viable and can be of great reward. As a result of this venture, my family will stand a chance of benefiting post the transfer period. To me, that is way better than spending the whole of it on food."

"In the next year, I hope to enroll in a diploma course in water management. I have been aiming to acquire skills that help me earn a living since life is challenging for those who do not have formal employment. The skills will enable me to secure a job hence supporting my family will be lighter for my father unlike in the previous years. Therefore, as I continue to receive my transfers, I shall use part of my transfer to help me build my savings for school fees. As a result, my education will no longer be burdensome to my father."

"We have been struggling against all the odds to see our children through their studies. Our 3 children are in various schools , our first born is in Kenya Medical Training college, one is due to join college sometimes this year and another one is in Kipcherere Secondary school. We have depleted nearly all the resources we had to pay for their school fees, we used to have 47 goats but we sold nearly all of them, remaining with just 2 to pay for their school fees. We are people of little means who depends on casual jobs to afford for our meals and other household needs. The jobs are few and erratic and can never be sustainable to make our ends meet. We are so hopeful that our children will have better lives than ours upon completing their studies and so we work hard each day, we hope against hope knowing that better times lies a head."

"I am a motorcycle taxi rider, and also run a mobile vegetable selling business. I bought the motorcycle through a loan. Currently, I need to service $700. The remaining amount. This means I need to pay $5 daily, including weekends. This has made my life very hard, and especially now as the rains begin. It will be a enormous task paying the daily remittance."

"My current objective is to build a little poultry coop for my fowl. They don't have a set spot to sleep, and when it's time to lay eggs, they even come to my house to do so. This is why I came up with this aim. As a result, my house is now disorganized. I have been saving for the same from the revenue I receive from my business, and I will soon build the house."
